I was under the impression that putting one shock in front of the axle and one behide reduced axle wrap. Probaly at an angle. On Tacoma World someone said by using a U bolt clamp on the leaf springs would reduce axle wrap.

If there is a class that is only 4WD (Class 3?) that you can compete in, great! I do love 4WD... but that is for slower driving... to save the parts and crawl over tough stuff.

===
The exception. 1999 Baja 1000 class 8 winner was a 4wd F150.
Score class 3 is a dying class, but the remaining competitors are running 37" tires and over 500 Hp. Class 7 is less expensive with more reasonable rigs.
Anyway 4wd is great for finishing, but will always be slower than 2wd, The race is against the course anyway. Just finishing is a win.
Good to see a nice build.

Glenn, is this still being built for racing or just fun/ prerunning?

Paul, back when I was involved more in SCORE, Class 8 was 2WD only. 4WDs were only Class 3 and Class 4 (stock and modified 4WDs, later became short and long wheelbase 4WDs). Class 4 was dropped.

There are so many classes and they have been changing, I would love to see the current list describing them. When I was in the 1000, Class 6 was production 2WD, water-cooled, passenger sedans and passenger pickups (Ranchero/ El Camino). Fun class with an Edsel, Saab, Ford Fairlane, Datsun, AMC Hornet, etc.

You do have the latest SCORE rulebook, so at least the safety mandates are addressed? I imaging it would be one of the Class 7 trucks, but as I mentioned, I am not sure about SCORE classes anymore.

I understand there will be changes in 2014 especially in the motorcycle/ATV classes as to engine size. Right now a 450cc motorcycle engine can be used in every class except 20. A 450cc engine from all the major manufactures is 249cc. I've heard they will change to an over and under 400cc size and drop class 20.

Thank you Tom... that list makes my head dizzy! How can anyone who finishes make coin with so many divisions of entries?

Back in the day, it was 50% payback per class*. If there were too few entries in any one class, they would combine classes so the racers could make some money if they finished in the top positions.

* 20 vehicles in a class, entry fee of $500, $10,000 would be divided half to SCORE and half ($5,000) to the top finishers... 1st place may get $2500, 2nd place gets $1,500, 3rd $800, 4th $200. Or, something like that...

More money would be earned by using products from companies that made products and paid winners to use them. Contingency!

Some classes at some races have side bets. Even so you'll never make enough to cover expenses, probably not even the entry fee. Sponsors and either lots of them or ones with deep pockets.

In the early 90s we spent $75,000 a year to race class 21 motorcycles in SCORE and ran open class in the two Baja Promotion, the desert and GP series, along with a couple of select races like Mammoth Mtn motocross and Baja Supercross. We got free tires and oil and 50-60% off on almost everything else like helmets and riding gear, 40% off on Trick Racing gas. Not much discount on the bikes, but OK. We had 4 bikes. 2 KX250s, 1 CR250 and 1 KX500. The riders used 4 strokes to pre-run on. The boys won 2 SCORE championship and 3 Baja Promotion Championships

Even the Norra 1000is expensive. Dreaming...... I did a budget to run it and it would be a minimum of 10Gs, spares, entry fees, pit crew for gas only, tir e s, etc etc.
