I am disgusted. I missed Virginia Lakes the past two years due to a partner backing out...Love Blue Lake and Green Lake too...I am now pining for Aspens.....AAAARGH!

You are fortunate to have been able to seize these moments!

Ken,

As a photographer yourself, you might find interest in this. When I got to Devil's Postpile it was late morning and the face was dark and in total shade. I could tell though, that within an hour or so the sun would illuminate the face and make for a great lighting. So I waited until just a few facets of the basalt columns were lit and I got my shots.

Ken

Love the strategy Ken. It obviously worked. Like I said, nobody has ever captured the Devil's Postpile as well as you have here. I have been there many times (spent much time in Mammoth Lakes), and I have never gotten anything nearly as good as your photos. Bravo!! ++Ken++

Lee Vining is one of my favorite places as well. We always stop there for lunch. Alex likes the burger joint on the east side of the highway.

I agree with Nena that the Virginia Lakes image is really special. Probably because it captures the light at the best time of the day.

I like the house a lot also. Could that be Bodie? The color of the wood is really amazing in that light. I've seen weathered wood at Bodie that actually looks blue. A great place to shoot.

I really wanted to hit the east sierras that weekend but health will still not allow it. Your pictures bring it all to me so I am grateful.

Igor,

Thanks for the kind comments.

The cabin (actually there are 2) is just west of 395 a few miles south of Lee Vining.

The 395 corridor is fantastic. We are still finding great spots along it's route.

Nice shot of Mono Lake's moon!

Old people are like the old cars, made of some tough stuff. May show a little rust, but good as gold on the inside.

We will be up there the end of next week. We love bouncing around on route 395, taking side roads and ending up at upper twin lake. This year we plan on visiting the bristle pine forest!

:

Just saw the cabins yesterday. They ARE just off the road. Like 50 yds!

Your photos are fabuluous and do the cabins justice. When seen from the hwy, they are just a foreground speck in the full spectacle of the Sierra's in their fall colors.

Good job! :bounce:

Plan a whole day, past the bristle cone forest is the trail up White Mountain,
It is the easiest "Fourteen" you will ever bag,
but a long day nonetheless...

RNR,

I have looked at those cabins for years, but never stopped to take a shot. This visit was all about pulling over and taking my time. I brought most of my lenses and took 90% of the shots with a tripod.

Thanks for the comment.

Ken
