"Flight of the Butterflies" shows at Tijuana's Cultural Center

"Flight of the Butterflies," a newly released IMAX film about the 2,500-mile journey of monarch butterflies between the Canada and the United States
and the Mexican state of Michoacan opens Saturday at the Tijuana Cultural Center (Cecut).
President Felipe Calderón, who has supported measures to protect the monarch butterfly, attended the film's premiere at the Smithsonian Institution in
Washington, D.C. last month. Directed by the British-born Mike Slee, the film by tells of a scientist's decades-long search for the butterflies'
Mexican winter home. Showings at the Cecut's IMAX dome are daily at 4 p.m., 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Other events of note through Sunday, Oct. 14:
Wednesday: More than 50 producers of tequila are expected to participate in Tijuana's Expo Tequila 2012, scheduled to run through Sunday.
Entertainment will be provided by mariachi groups, ranchera singers and various dance ensembles. The event opens at 5 p.m. Wednesday, and will run
from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. from Thursday through Sunday on Avenida Revolucion between Seventh and Eighth streets.
Wednesday: Cristina Crème, a Tijuana musical group that blends jazz, world music, folk and rock, performs at 8 p.m. at the Multiforo of the Baja
California Institute of Culture in Tijuana. Tickets are 100 pesos, about $8.
Thursday: The ten-day mega-event Tijuana Innovadora 2012 opens at the Tijuana Cultural Center. Highlights this week include the Culinary Battle (9
a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Grand Hotel) and the InnovaModa Fashion Show (Sunday at 7 p.m. at Cecut). For information in English, click here.
Thursday through Sunday: The Baja Culinary Fest, which features competitions, food festivals, conferences, special dinners, wine tastings, puts the
spotlight on Baja California's growing culinary movement. At various locations across the state, including Tijuana, Ensenada, Mexicali, Tecate,
Rosarito Beach.
Thursday: Robert Servitje Sendras, chairman of Grupo Bimbo, the world's largest bread manufacturing company, speaks at the University of San Diego.
The talk is from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. in the Warren Auditorium of the Mother Rosalie Hall at the west end of campus. In Spanish with English

Friday: Astrid Hadad, a Mexican actress and performance artist, opens the nine-day Festival Tijuana Interzona with a concert at 7 p.m. on the stairs
of the Casa de La Cultura, the municipal arts center in Colonia Altamira. Also Friday, from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m., graffiti artist Gerardo Yepiz
demonstrates his work at Galeria La Tentacion TJ in Pasaje Gomez off of Avenida Revolucion.
Saturday: The Los Angeles-based Harmonies Girls Choir performs at 5 p.m. at the Salon La Tasca in the Jardines Section of Playas de Tijuana. The
event, sponsored by the Tijuana Municipal Institute of Arts and Culture is free and open to the public.
Sunday: The 17th annual Puerto Nuevo lobster festival takes place from noon to 6 p.m. at the Puerto Nuevo Lobster Village off the free road about 10
miles south of downtown Rosarito Beach. A plate of lobster, beans and rice tortillas and three drinks is $20."
