In search of Meteors.....
Our plan was to view the meteor showers from Mt. Laguna and get there about 4am. I checked the weater sources and it was iffy that it would be clear.
We decided if it was socked in we would just drop down into Borrego. As it turned out it was socked in up to about the 6,000' elevation, but not the
best location for photographing. Off to Borrego we went. It was a beautiful night with a starry sky with Milky Way and a blazing Venus. We were
serenaded by a pack of coyotes and an owl did a fly over at 10' above us. We ended up seeing about 30 meteors in an hour before it started getting
light. I only had a couple of images with faint trails in them though.
(for the photographers- the night shot settings: ISO 2500, f2.8, exposure 25 seconds, 24mm with a 24-70 Nikkor. I "light painted" the bush in the
foreground with a flashlite.)
a very faint pair of meteors in the middle of the image on the right...
driving home at sunrise you can just see the front spilling over the tops of the Laguna Mtn's.

Very well done photos all. You had a much darker sky than we did. From 0100 - 0130 hrs. we saw about four or five streaks, with one good one, and
then gave up.

Where did you view the light show?

Every shot I take gets post processed, as I shoot all my photos in raw format not jpeg. The colors in #3 are attributed to:
1. time of day, I was there before sunrise, which produced pink/peach/orange hues on those mtns over 10 minutes.
2. quality of the lens
3. 16 mp sensor camera
4. shot on tripod
5. raw format
6. processing in Adobe Lightroom 4
I don't understand your question regarding "focal lengths".

Ken, we were southeast of Sacramento and couldn't drive far enough to get away from the Sacto glare. For all of the meteor showers I have gotten up
in the middle of the night for, only a couple have lived up to their billing.
