20th Annual SAN FELIPE Shrimp Festival

Someone asked about this earlier in another post.

Here's an excellent site for San Felipe News.......not that other web site sf.com/mx, that wasn't up during the summer and shut down their physical location in San Felipe.

Randy's www.blueroadrunner.com is a good source too for info.

Baja California tourism welcomes visitors to the 20th annual San Felipe Shrimp Festival Nov. 2-4, 2012. This year’s event features Baja’s most famous chefs, including Javier Plascencia and Bonito and Solange Molina. San Felipe, the “gateway to the Sea of Cortez,” is renowned as the shrimp capital of Baja California, Mexico, where giant, blue shrimp naturally grow in its gorgeous blue waters.

Guests will sample delicious culinary aspects of the famed blue shrimp and celebrate the lifestyle of the San Felipe fisherman at the three-day event. Cultural events, entertainment, wine and tequila tastings, and local and regional folk artists will also entertain visitors.

The main event will feature Baja California chefs who present their best shrimp recipes to a panel of Baja’s most notable chefs. The judging panel will name the 20th annual event’s best shrimp recipe at the conclusion of the festival.

The family-friendly festival also offers entertainment for all ages with carnival rides for children and winery and tequila tastings for adults. Attendees can also experience the culture of Mexico at a Mexican-style rodeo, while local artists and crafters will showcase their finest artwork, all handcrafted in Baja. Additionally, bands from both the U.S. and Baja California will offer performances in a variety of musical genres.

“It’s an exciting year as we celebrate 20 years of San Felipe’s famous blue shrimp and special guest chefs from Baja showcase their best recipes in a cook-off,” said Baja California State Tourism Secretary Juan Tintos. “We welcome visitors to the best shrimp event of Baja.”

San Felipe, is located 130 miles south of Mexicali on Highway 5. The Shrimp Festival takes place on Friday, Nov. 2 from noon – 2 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 3 from 10 a.m. – 2 a.m. and Sunday, Nov. 4 from 9 a.m. – midnight. Old people are like the old cars, made of some tough stuff. May show a little rust, but good as gold on the inside.
