Our Baja Dogs Nearly Scared Me to Death Today
For a couple of weeks, hubby has been telling me that he has seen a large rat lurking around our garage containers.
Well, today, the dogs caught it and dragged it into the house.
It was still alive and moving. I put the dogs behind closed doors and threw a Tupperware bowl on top of it. I told the young assistant that is
working in hubby's office to stay away.
She said, "I will come and help you."
Together, we maneuvered a cardboard lid into place and transported all of it to a covered trash can.
I made sure that she washed her hands with antibacterial soap and I wiped the dogs' mouths down with antibacterial wipes.
Nobody is really happy with me, but my heart rate has gone back to normal.
Emergency over, but my heart rate has yet to go back to normal levels.

I got one last week after I found a baseball size hole in the dog food and about 5 pounds of kibble behind a stack of wood. When I finally got her she
had dropped 7 babies. Of course I had to re stack all the wood and I'm still keeping an eye out for dad. Almost as big as a squirrel. First time I had
to deal with one that big.

Man, I'm so happy that I do NOT have that problem. Yuck! Then, what do you do with the tupperware after the catch? Hummmm....
The SAME boiling water that softens the potato hardens the egg. It's about what you are made of NOT the circumstance.

Yes, a Tupperware Coffin
With the lid snapped on and "burped".
This guy was so big it was hard to fold him into the two quart container and to manage coiling the tail inside.
He is now gone, but not forgotten - at least, by me, for now.

The Dogs Had Done a Kill Bite
The rat was partially paralyzed and dying. His intestines were exposed, along with his fecal contents.
I was worried about infection and disease and needed to get things cleaned up right away so the dogs wouldn't be licking on the floor where they would
get something that would hurt them.
Not cruelty - he was dead by the time we packed him away.

Another Rat Caught by Our Dogs Today
Today, same scenario - our smallest female Great Dane is faster than you can believe and she did a kill bite that paralyzed the rat, then she brought
it to us and we got rid of it.
We have found that traps don't work with smart Baja rats (no offense intended to any Nomad poster calling themselves Baja rats) and I can't stop a dog
hunting and this is better than spreading poison around that the dogs might eat.

Oh, lucky are the ones who can dispose of their rats in a tuperware. I'd like to order a dozen please?

Yes, we got one, a good size rat, last week. We live in south Ensenada. We used a Warfarin (sp.?) type rat bait.
