Politics and Who gets the last beer?
My fishing buddy and I spent the weekend at Eagle Lake in Northern California. On our morning trip he packs the ice chest with an odd number of
beers. WTF, who does that????

After splitting them evenly there is only one left. Being well right of center, he says as I caught the fish and as he believes in a meritocracy, it
should be mine. Being a lefty myself, I say that as he is an obviously disadvantaged fisherperson, I should give him some of what I have. You know,
redistribution, shared wealth and all that.
Who is right???

I did leave out one small detail - during the discussion of his inability to plan ahead, his rod goes off and now we were even, fish-wise. I poured
half into one of his empties and we motored back for lunch.
By the way, as Eagle Lake trout go, this is on the smallish size. Most run in the 18"-22" range and are FAT and pink. More than you will ever need to

DK would catch another and then feeds us all with 5 additional tortillas. That's after coming down from the Mount.

Igor: in front of the boat I have my float tube. Eagle Lake is big, 16 miles long, and lots of shore line that you can not drive to so we motor to
the area we want to fish and then float tube. As you can see, this day was flat calm but often the wind can come up. This is a nymph fishing lake
and largely with streamers - anything leech-like will do so woolly buggers are pretty standard fare.
There is, at times, an emerger hatch in size 20ish for an hour or two in the late morning, some days. Basically, you're fishing in very shallow
water.
This lake stays open until Dec 31 because the worse the weather, the better and closer to shore the fishing becomes. Does not open until memorial day
so that they can capture as many eggs as possible.
This picture was taken after float tubing and we were slow trolling flies on the way back to the ramp - in fact, the fish in the photo was caught
right ofter this picture was taken - had to set my beer down. Damn, I hate that....

DK would post 5 maps (some hand-drawn) that show us how to get to this secret fishing spot....and give the beer to Baja Angel  ....just to demonstrate his sensitive, thoughtful, and humanistic values.

I have fished Eagle Lake at this time of year, but from a boat. The idea of getting into that water in November didn't seem too appealing. As you say,
the lake is so huge that knowing where to launch a float tube seemed overwhelming.
Let me tell you how cold it was, though. <how cold was it Igor?>. It was so cold that my boat was slick from the previous night's frost. It was
so cold that the flyline froze in the guides during the retrieve. It was so cold that I spent the evening, night, and following morning in a down bag
because the camper felt like an icehouse. Like one of those rooms where Rocky Balboa would practice by punching a side of beef. It was so cold that
the water froze in the pipe and I couldn't make coffee until midday when the sun had thawed it out. And this was during cloudless sunny days.
California has everything.At one end you have 80 degree beach weather and at the other ... Lambeau Field.
BTW, I don't think there's an Obama voter in all of Susanville.
Did you ever run into Jay Fair in Susanville? He's probably no longer with us. I thought his version of the wooly bugger is the best that was ever
tied (tyed). Denny Rickard developed many of his techniques from Mr Faire. A really interesting man.
