wow....that sure seems like a long hard road to pave! I certainly have mixed emotions about it...glad for the residents who will benefit tremendously, glad for the new people who will be able to enjoy this spectacular piece of coast, glad it will be easier to tow our boat in, sad to see this unique village change.

IMHO If you read Spanish, and especially if you understand political-announcement-spanish the wording of that announcement is so tentative that in fact it implies the first ten kilometers of the road is being planned to be paved this year. With a hope that commencement for the remainder of the road to be (at least) started by the end of the sexenio. Lovers of "unspoiled" Agua Verde shouldn't break out the crying towels just yet. IMHO

Many projects in Baja never seem to happen---I wouldn't worry until I actually see them paving the road.

The longer we live, the more roads will get paved... Hwy. 1 in 1973, now a paved Hwy. 5 is less than a mile from Gonzaga Bay!

Baja will slowly, but surely look as developed as Alta California... some day!

Yesterday I was present at the Baja Image Committee meeting in Rosarito Beach.

a statement of interest to our community by the State Tourism director.

Additional funds have been allocated to finish work on the road to La Bufadora.
Don't know when it will start and I don't know how far on the road they will work this time.

So we will just wait and see and continue to try and dodge potholes.

Have a great day

..and much faster without all the CA required environmental impact studies, CalTran design and inspections, etc.

When I was down there last spring, I heard that the Señor that owns the big house at San Cosme had contributed very heavily to the Mayor of Loreto's campaign (just hearsay). 10 mile of paving takes you to the top of the hill I believe. I also heard he wants to develop it not for people who own his and her Mercedes Benzes but his and her Lear Jets.

Maybe this is the reason it's being paved:

Wow, a paradise... with a private chef!

(from the link):

Casa San Cosme is located on the sea of Cortez, just south of Loreto, B.C.S. Mexico. Arriving to Casa San Cosme through Loreto international airport, guests travel to Puerto Escondido and hop on a majestic 30-45 minute cruise down the coast to this secluded paradise. The home sits above the beach with panoramic views of the sea and sierra giganta mountain range. Nearby are hot water springs, Indian cave paintings, snorkeling, kayaking to San Cosme island, the famous Agua Verde beach and breath taking sunrises and sunsets. Casa San Cosme is equipped with a full staff including a chef and housekeeping as well as tour guides. Whether you are looking to sit pool side and sip c-cktails or go on an adventure, Casa San Cosme is the perfect place to vacation.

When they finish paving the road 11 km west of the entronque to Asuncion to the first farm then I'll get "all excited" over other hot-air projects. My TelCel is full of "noticias" about such things as La Paz getting eleven million pesos to repave bad city steets, 200 emergency blankets to pass out to the poor but if you -follow- up on these stories, they somehow drop through the cracks.

DREAM STORY

100,000,000 pesos get spent for polygraph machines administered by swedish and swiss personnel to check Mexican political figures for "accuracy" of funds allocations.

Here it is. This long shot is from Cosme. It's near the point on the left on a bluff above the water. I met the architect and his family last February at the hot spring.

Yes, it will change things. Probably make it look a lot like Ensenada Blanca. And it will provide well paying jobs for the villagers. Just like Ensenada Blanca.

the changes we have been witness to in the7 years we have been in La Bocana are simply mind-boggling.

the road from highway 1 is now paved all the way to punta abreojos. no one EVER really believed it would happen.

a new supermarket being built that will rival any american supermarket

more brand new beautiful houses being built by Mexican than one can count

cabanias and a restaurant being built right on the estero for easy fishing access

4 rental casitas built by Nelo, right at the entrance to town

a brand new middle school - newly hired teachers - new school principal

not one but 2 gringo B&B's started and running at full blast

heck, the gas station in punta abreojos is OPEN from 6 to 10 pm !

there's a new cooperative venture in Ecotourism with kayaks, mtn bikes and more

talk about changes. whew !
