Meteor Strikes Russia While Asteroid Misses Earth
Did you just catch this on the morning news? Odd coincidence.
A meteor crashed into a community in Russia’s Ural mountains earlier today, injuring at least 950 people, according to news reports. The meteor didn’t
strike the community directly – it landed in a nearby lake – but the shockwave itself caused damaged to buildings and smashed windows. Most of the
people affected suffered only cuts and bruises, though about 46 are still hospitalized. No deaths have been reported.
The Russian Academy of Sciences provided an estimate on their website indicating that the meteor was travelling between 15-20 km/s on its way down,
and appears to have been made of mostly iron. The Washington Post quotes the RAS of stating that the meteor was about 10 tons. The meteor broke up in
mid-atmosphere, with some confirmed pieces of the meteor landing as far as 50 miles away from the site and other fragments may have fallen 75 miles
away.
The meteor strike happened on the same day that near-Earth asteroid 2012 DA14 will make a close flyby of Earth. So close, in fact, that it will be
inside the orbit of some telecommunications satellites. NASA is monitoring the asteroids path and has confirmed that there is no chance that the
asteroid will strike the planet. 2012 DA14 will be at its closest to Earth at 2:25pm EST.
Talk about Shades of the movie, 'Armageddon'
A Cosmic Co-incidence or ?
Wonder how much those space flights cost?

Saw the video clips of it and heard the shockwave, broken glass... exciting indeed. The big one comes by soon today... This reminds me of some recent
sci-fi movies. It was great while it lasted amigos, vaya con dios! (I hope I am
joking)

It is tough for me to believe it is a "cooincidence"--------me thinks that the big "fly-by" has some little "not so fly by's" accompanying it!!
Hang on!!!

Well, "they" are saying I am wrong-------------I would have been a lot happier if I had been right!!!! The coincidence is mind-boggleing, and
potentially much more worriesome.

I have seen many meteor showers, and they go from horizon to horizon in a fraction of a second.
This seemed to be too slow, more like a large piece of space junk, but the size and the brightness don't seem to add up.

Instead of skipping, like a stone against water, this one is coming down, more atmospheric resistance, thus slower. The sonic boom was likely what was
heard... just like when the space shuttle (used to) return home from space. Woke us up but good early one morning in the mid-1990's, in Fresno.

Does Gnu Know ?
Probably so.
I was talking to an acquaintance this a.m. and he said that he'd heard it was REALLY a "Tesla" Death-Ray that they were testing.
There are those who see (and hear) dark conspiracies EVERYWHERE.
Gnu ?

Reading a lot on this... I found that a meteor is an object that will not strike the earth. A meateorite is an object that will strike the earth.
For this event over Russia it appears that a meteor exploded about 20 or so miles away and did not actually hit earth.

Interesting stuff....
The SAME boiling water that softens the potato hardens the egg. It's about what you are made of NOT the circumstance.

Oh Bob...
A hole in the ice marks a place where a meteorite reportedly crashed into a frozen lake outside the city of Chelyabinsk, Russia, on Friday.

The difference between Asteroids and Meteors.
An asteroid about the size of an apartment building is expected to pass closely by the Earth on Friday. “Is heat and hot water
included and is it close to the subway?” asked New Yorkers.
Meanwhile, a meteor exploded over Russia early Friday morning, injuring over 1000 people with falling debris and glass. On the other
hand, hey, free debris and glass.
