Lost Dog in Mulege - help requested
A friend has lost her dog when passing through Mulege recently.
We're asking Nomads to please be on the lookout for her when traveling the highway by the Pemex station south of town.
Here's the description:
"Does anybody have contacts in Mulege? Need help to find lost dog.
Last week while driving north, our friend lost his dog Nina at the southern Pemex outside Mulege. (Please see photos.) She is 2 years old, completely
black, Shar Pei (not the wrinkly face type).
She has a curled-up tail, ears that point forwards, and a black tongue. She was wearing a red collar and rabies tag. She is 18" high at the shoulder
and in great, glossy condition. Despite looking a bit fierce, she's a very friendly gal...Many thanks indeed.
Any info please email pennycottee@hotmail.co.uk or call cel 612 144 0788 or 612 148 3465. (La Paz) Thank you!"
She's provided photos that I'd like to post here, but I'm unable to do so. Would someone be willing to post 'em if I send them to you, please?
This dog and the lady looking for her have quite a moving and unique Baja story.
I'd like to see this dog safe and sound again.

Oh, I hope they find her !! I can't imagine loosing my dog anywhere, much less somewhere in Baja.

Lots of dogs across the street from that Pemex so the dog might well hang around there. I would offer a reward to the Pemex attendants- one of them
should come up with it. (Not much worse than losing a dog and wondering what is happening to it!!) Best of luck in finding it quickly!!

I spoke to the Pemex people this afternoon.
They'd all seen her and saw someone trying to coax her to them, but she ran.
She's not an aggressive dog, but was disoriented and afraid, I'm sure, which caused her to bolt away.
I gave them my local phone number. I'll go speak with them throughout the week.
Nomads who are passing through Mulege in the next few weeks, please keep your eyes open for her. Remember, she was lost at the Pemex station on
the highway south of town.
Thanks to all who helped get her photos posted here on the thread. Its so important to have identifying photos of our animals, especially while we're
traveling.

The words to use are
"GRANDE RECOMPENSA"
Big Reward. "Dos Mil Pesos En Efectivo" (around 160 dollars US) This will get attention and a dog napper would be sorely tempted to go honest. From
hard earned experience I've learned that small rewards do not work to get pedigree breeds returned.
Good Luck!

I'll speak to my contact person about offering a reward.
The dog isn't a pedigreed animal that we know of, but a rehabilitated abandoned animal.
Here's a brief history about her as told to me by the lady who rescued her and is hoping to find her in Mulege:
" I rescued Nina from a remote hillside outside La Paz in the summmer last year, after someone had dumped her there with a litter of new puppies. She
was in a bad way but after six months of TLC, vaccinations, being spayed, etc, she came back to really great health.
Our friend who was taking her north had adopted her in January, so they hadn't been together very long. It breaks my heart to think of her back on
the streets again! I guess if nothing else at least this time she's much better protected. "
I want to find this dog!

Thanks Mulegena- Unfortunately we are in the US or we would be helping. Many dogs are run over in that area due to the local dogs chasing cars and
speeding trucks. The quicker someone can get ahold of her the better.

Was "Nina" ever found? This girl roamed through my yard today on the Bay of Concepción, roughly six or seven miles south of that Pemex station on Hwy.
1 in Mulegé where Nina was reported lost. I whistled, made kissing noises (not realizing her name until revisiting this thread) and slowly advanced in
her direction, but she was having none of it. Extremely skittish. Closest I could get was maybe 30-yards, hence the poor cell phone pictures.
Being curious I went to speak to the neighbors about whether they have seen this dog, and for how long. They hadn't, but a local guy who works for one
of the neighbors says he's seen this dog around the development for maybe two months now. Then I spotted her again taking refuge in an abandoned house
garage, where I was able to snap the bottom-most photo. I called out her name and she looked, but that could of just been my tone of voice. After
repeating her name several times it was apparent that she had no interest in tolerating my advance. Rather than push her, I just let her be. If any of
you tech-savvy photo users can zoom way in on the final photo you will see that the head shape, ear perk, and muzzle proportions compare very
favorably to the head-shot posted above in this thread.
I wish I could be certain that this is in fact "Nina," but I can't, although the resemblance and location are just too close to ignore. I guess my
goal in posting is just to see if maybe the owner can be contacted to hopefully make a positive i.d.?

looks like same dog. the tail in 2nd photo of original lost dog looks short only because of angle of tail, first photo shows long tail on lost dog.
best lure for a skittish dog is food; bacon, lasagna, fish tacos, they all work

Looks like the same curl of the tail.
Definitely worth looking into, even if it not the same dog, this dog needs help.

you know what? I think that the lost dog reports should be followed up when the dog IS found.
Sure hope this is not Nina (ie she has already gone home)but also hope that this blackie finds a good home.

I'll contact the former owner with a link to this thread. Ask her to give a try with identification of this dog.
Thanks, jakecard, for your sharp eye and good heart. Its been months since Nina disappeared at the Pemex station south of town. Its possible this is
she. As I recall she was an aloof dog which is why she chose to separate from her new owner.
We'll see. I'll report back when I've further info.
If you could, look after this poor dog. Its really hot here in Mulege now. Could you put some water out for her/him, please? I realize you can't get
close to her, but a sure ID would be her black tongue.
