AT&T Cell Service in Baja Outgoing not working

I have a AT&T Go Phone and for the last 5 days I can not call out to the United States. The Phone shows emergency mode only. But I can call any local Telcel or Telnor number and recieve calls from the United States. Does anyone know whats going on?

I have had to call AT&T Technical Service several times over the last year with similar problems and they have always corrected the problems..You can go on line and discuss it on "live chat" with the technician...

In my iPhone, also with ATT, I have NEVER had an outgoing call to the US, problem. & We fly to Cabo/La Paz 4-5 times a year.

I ahve to say, however, That we have a MEXICO phone plan with ATT @$5.95/mo.
It roams with Telcel.
HOWEVER, I have always had problems with MOVISTAR and just write if off as s-ht happens in Mexico.

Good Morning G,

We have the GoPhone as well and are very happy with it but also get the same message, then it corrects itself within an hour. I figured the circuits are busy, high calling time?

We've discovered with our ATT Go Phone that we get the emergency mode only symbol when the phone is only seeing a network that is NOT Telcel...........or for that matter a network that is not ATT simpatico in the US.

I guess this doesnt help you much, though.........

I turned my Go Phone back on this morning and it says TelCel Gsm but it also shows emergency only sign. So i tried to call USA and got the same message in Spanish number cannot be dialed. Just don't know whats going on with AT&T and Telcel. Maybe Carlos Slim wants more money. LOL

GOOD News ?

Sort of, I guess.

I thought it might be a problem with MY Go-Phone service while down south.

Having checked my home voicemails successfully every day, on Thursday p.m., I encountered the "Telcel GSM" OK, BUT the same result described.

Once N.O.B. and connected to a U.S. provider, my service was OK.

HM. Glad it wasn't just my problem.

I bought 80 minutes of cell time from my carrier, ATT, for about $30.00 before our last venture in Baja. The instructions I got at the time, and the instructions which were texted to me under the title Welcome Abroad made it impossible to call out of Mexico. I would get a 'provisional forwarding' message in Spanish, end of story.

Finally someone told me to just dial the area code and number and to forget the 'plus' or 'zero' keys. My calls went through like they were made from home.

ATT sucks. Their corporate philosophy sucks, and here at home, even their cell signal and DSL speed sucks.

Does anyone have any idea how much relative trauma there is in changing two cell numbers, a land line, and two e-mail addresses in terms of lost contacts and general irritation???

I just found out to call the USA you need to dial *1 area code and number to get past the emergency only mode. I tried it and it worked.
