As a young boy I spent time at Trona. California. My Grandfather worked for the railroad and my Grandmother as a librarian. I lived in Ridgecrest, Ca. and so I visited Trona many times.
It is my understanding that Trona is still an operating mining area

Lots to see around this area and the museum mentioned are well worth a visit --- actually worth more than one visit.

It was fun to take these pictures while watching the really well done short documentary, and yes, the song at the end is great.

We visited Trona last year, drove and walked around for several hours---------yes, it definitely is still an "operating mining area" but the community was looking pretty rag-tag last year--------mining infrastructure looked well maintained, however.
