Cool that you were there to see it. Just a few days after the large oarfish was found at Catalina.

I found a strange eel on the beach at Ensenada bay. I took a photo to Ivan who is a very experienced fisherman and he had seen it on the beach earlier that day. He said it was a deep ocean eel and his theory is that there was a disturbance on the ocean floor that caused this eel to come up, along with some very coarse sand that was on the beach.

Yeah, it was cool to be able to be there to see it. A fisherman friend alerted me to it, saying he's been fishing for 40 years and had no idea what it was.

This finding was on the 6:00 news in San Diego yesterday.
CBS News
The also interviewed a lady from NOAA that was there to retrieve the carcass and she said they would cut it into thin crosswise slabs for study.

The Japanese noticed that after these start beaching themselves, a large earthquake happens in the not too distant future.

This is the second one found in a week, the other off Catalina

Happened just before March 2011, the 9.0 that gave us ***ushima.

That recent 6.4 in the SOC might have just increased the stress on the fault further north.

We had two show up in the shallows at San Marcos Island. We took one to the mine where they took pics and everything. It was fresh and they tried filleting it. Everyone said it tasted a lot like fish flavored Jello.
