Punta San Jose to Punta China passable?
Is the road clear to pass from Punta San Jose to Punta china(see Map pic attachment)?? We tried going north from Punta San Jose last February and we
found a washed out road in the canyon north of Punta San Jose. It was getting dark so we decided to turn around.
I raced on this road when best in the desert raced in Baja in circa 2003??

There is no accessible road on the coast directly linking Punta San Jose and Punta China. I don't know how far the track going north from Punta San
Jose goes before it peters out, but the road going south from La Bocana ends at the quarry at Punta China, which is gated and guarded. There is a
road going south from the La Bocana road about three quarters of the way out to the coast from Mex 1 (indicated by the little southbound turnoff on
David's map above), which meanders around on the coastal mesa and dumps out just north of the lighthouse at Punta San Jose. I took that route on dirt
bikes with some friends a couple of years ago and it was passable but ugly in a couple of spots, including a sinkhole that nearly swallowed one of our
bikes. There've been some serious rains down there since then, so the current conditions are unknown. It's unlikely that any significant portion of
it has been graded. If you check it out, please post a report.

If you drive south from P. San Jose a little ways you'll see a road that heads inland over the hills---that will get you to the P. China area, but not
driving along the water...the road north of the lighthouse has been washed out for years, but I haven't been thru there for 8 years or so.

The coastal road south of Punta San Jose turns inland about 8 or 9 kilometers south of the lighthouse and there's an intersection with another road a
few more kilometers inland. Straight leads to Santo Tomas, right to Erendira. The road to the La Bocana road (and ultimately La Bocana and Punta
China the long way from the north), which is referred to in Google Maps as "Camino de Rancho Viejo - A la Playa," meets the coastal road about 3 or 4
kilometers north of the lighthouse.

I am a pretty avid offroader, and I got about 3 miles or so North of P. San Jose before I decided to turn around. Mainly because I was by myself and
saw some areas which were a little sketchy. Off camber stuff going down really fast near a cliff, no gracias.
The first area where the road is semi flat and washed out isn't that bad, although I had to engage both lockers to crawl out of a rut. 
This was about 2 years ago.
