Volcanic Tablelands, CA
Bit by bit, we are exploring the Volcanic Tablelands north east of Bishop, California near Chalfant off of Highway 6. There are several areas of
petroglyths and it is still considered a sacred area for the local Native Americans. We find something different every time we are there and in one
way or another, we feel the spirits. In Chadago Canyon it was the spirits hiding in the rocks, and this area was different.

The spirits are so there. When taking this picture, I did not see the bear spirit looking down on us, but he is there in those rocks. I hope others
will see the bear.
Even the sun flare took on special qualities --- this one looking like a colorful spaceship to which my son will climb, or maybe it was a small
visitor from the beyond.
Old Tom just likes to think about these things while resting in the rocks.
And I always find John pondering and lost in his own thoughts about the wide open spaces we love so much

Diana,
One can see how much you love what you are doing, which is reflected in your photos... They are spectacular.
The bear spirit is evident in that particular photo...

Thanks for the nice comments, they are appreciated and I am pleased that bear spirit is easily seen. It is a great area this time of the year when
there is no snow.
What is really sad is that in 2012 some creeps drilled and cut out 4 panels of petroglyphs. The BLM, the local Paiute/Shoshone Reservation offered a
reward for leads, and through facebook, a rock climbing group raised more money for the reward; the money was to be appropriately donated if it was
not needed for the reward.
The BLM was able to recover the panels through an anonymous tip and the pictures were not damaged. However, they sure could not be pasted back into
the rocks. I don't know what happened to the creeps or where the panels ended up. I am sure they are being displayed somewhere around here.
Barry, In all the time you have spent over in this area, I can't believe you have not explored the Tablelands because I know you would really enjoy
them!

Good old Fish Slough Road! Lots of rock art sites. I love the road maybe 2 miles north of Chalfant that goes west by the power lines. Leads to a sandy
ravine that has some great art. But if you really want to get into it, do a Maturango Museum tour of Little Petroglyph Canyon!!

Nice pics Diane, looks like you have a lifetime of exploring to do in that area. I think I saw the tablelands from a distance last summer---another
amazing place in that Eastern Sierra area.

We have not done the whole Fish Slough Road yet --- hopefully soon. These were reached via a side road off of Casa Diablo Rd which crosses Fish
Slough Road and heads west.
I think the road you are referring to a bit north of Chalfant is the one that goes to to Chidago Canyon beyond the petroglyphs and from there, we have
ended up on Bald Mountain and back to 395 --- fantastic area!
I thought I had posted a couple of pictures from there, but I didn't find them. I really hope I am not repeating myself.
Just a couple pix of the petroglyphs located off the Chidago Canyon Road.

And I love plants that have the strength to split rocks and grow.
And Chidago Canyon is really beautiful and the rocks are full of human and animal spirits. A couple examples that I named

And I am not sure what animal this is, but he is beautiful.
