Catalina Island

My wife got a smoking deal on a hotel and the ferry to Catalina. No waves to surf, but plenty of fun to be had!

Chick paddling to the Wedge.

Boojum!

Great trip!

We were on a 32' sailboat anchored at Twin Harbors on the night Natalie Wood went overboard. History.

Thanks Meany, David, and Woody. I've been there a few times but never stayed overnight. That was the real thing that made the trip - having 3 days to play around. We felt like we did everything we wanted to do by the last morning, and just chilled on the beach until the ferry picked us up. That Boojum is what makes this Baja related! Ha. The Catalina Botanical Gardens by the Wrigley Memorial were pretty cool. Tons of cacti and succulents to look at. My favorite thing was the kayaking. I wanna do that more.

What are the only 2 kinds of wood that don't float?
Ironwood and?
There is a rather large New Years Celebration in the casino in Avalon every year. Black Tie only so most of you Nomads wouldn't fit in (or even get in? :-)

Anyone know what they're mining for in the photo I posted? On the map it's by Jewfish Point.

Mil gracias for the photo report.

We have been to Catalina between 15 and 20 times. At least ten of those times we arrived via a Hobie 16, and either camped at the campgrounds, or stayed at the motel (the campground has only COLD water for showers).

It is a great 1-4 day getaway.

The inland and Wrigley Mansion are worth the bucks.

My guess is that both Wagner and Walken did it.

An old joke about this was that while Walken and Wagner were playing cards and drinking, Natalie came up from below and said, "I think I'll wash ashore."

My dear departed grandparents used to talk about taking the Great White Steam Ship to Avalon and dancing at the Casino ballroom to Benny Goodman and Jimmy Dorsey and the like. It made me sad to see the ship foundering in Ensenada harbor for all those years. I even donated to the cause when they were trying to save it.

Thanks for the pics.

We were scheduled to go there for our 15th anniversary this fall but cancelled and are heading to another island instead. May have to get a quick trip over there this summer.
