Why buy fishing license locally?

This is the same info that was mentioned here not too long ago, but has even more detail. So, I thought I would post:

Fishing Licenses: Below is an excerpt from Bloody decks. By Pescador Jim

It is really important that if you are going to be fishing in Baja California Sur, that you buy your license here as well. All fishing, commercial and sport was controlled by the government agency of SAGARPA and they were quite frankly more inclined to follow the wishes of the commercial fishing interests than sport fishing. When FONMAR was developed, it is directly responsible for sport fishing interests and is jumping ahead in representing our interests and effectively legislating in our best interest.

I am actively involved in the direction of tournament fishing in our area and have had the opportunity to work very closely with FONMAR during the last 5 or 6 tournaments. They are very active in listening to our concerns, trying to get an accurate reporting of just exactly what is going on with sport fishing, and actively setting up tournaments with their help and financial support. They are keeping very accurate records on catches, hours on the water, conditions, etc., and all of that information is going to the head office in La Paz.

Only through very active participation with people like Pam Bolles from Loreto, Minerva from Cabo, Robin Wade from Western Outdoor News, and others, were efforts blocked to legalize the commercial harvest of Dorado. FONMAR is demonstrating that sport fishing is having a very definite impact on the economy and they are our voice in protecting the resource. Does a dorado illustrate .25 cents a pound, or can it mean an impact of $100 or more to sport fishing interests. Which of those sides of the coin will try to keep the dorado available and underharvested?

Maybe that is because I am PescadorJim (my scary alter ego) over there. Now you are blowing my cover.
