Police action on the road to Playas

Driving home last night was a nightmare. I crossed southbound about 8 PM. Traffic on Via International was backed up all the way to Via Independencia. It was a crawl, nearly stopped. I was expecting a huge accident. When I finally got to Playas about 9:30, I found that there was some kind of police unit stopping and searching every car, bus, taxi, and motorcycle. Obviously they were not looking for a gringo, I was waved through.

The units were driving large, tan, Chevy trucks, Not tan in camo like the army. Shiny new, unmarked, trucks. The guys doing the searching had no uniforms or ID. They did have lots of big guns, flashlights, and authority of some kind.
