Mulegna,
Of course....;D

At this time, my trip partners have had to cancel going south so I am scrambling in my head how to do the trip myself or with the one riding buddy who can still come down....

It will take a few weeks before we need to reserve the banquet hall

Question: How about the partially-dirt road far east from Laguna Chapala up to Mexicali? Family intend to drive it north tomorrow. Reports, please?

The graded road from hwy1 by Cocos Corner and on to Gonzaga Bay has been repaired. From Gonzaga Bay to Mexicali the road is in good condition.

Boy, I hate to add to the IQ points already posted here, but the road is fine. I just got in yesterday and everything was fine. There are some vados that have been torn up by running water, but they have those filled in, even though they can be a little rough, since they do not have pavement. There was a lot of water between El Rosario and Guerrero Negro, but everything was passable. It is not advisable to pull off on the side of the road in the dirt areas as everything is a big mudhole and will stick like glue to the truck and trailer. (Don't ask me how I know) After going through Odile, I was really leery of coming down, but I talked to truckers and other travelers as often as possible and knew I was OK to go. It was a rainy, wet son of a gun and the road was slower than normal due to standing water on the road, but that was about the extent.

They did not grade the entire road just the areas that were damaged by the rain. A section about 1 or 2 miles from hwy 1 at Chapala and a couple of large holes between there and Cocos. It appears it was done to get the large tractor Trailer rigs hauling heavy equipment to the Santa Rosalia mining co.

I just drove down yesterday and actually felt the road was better than when I left in June. It was a beautiful drive as Simon has just passed through so everything was clean and green. Road was pretty normal with the standard potholes and broken pavement around Catavina but nothing deep enough to cause concern unless you are running 10" tires. As Pescador stated the asphalt has washed out of a few vados but there was solid rock underlayment so they wasn't any problems and the usual ones have a little more water than normal so just slow down through them. The only work that disrupted traffic was just below Loreto where they are doing some really nice rock work and it looks like they are putting in a Vista Point but we only had to wait about 20 minutes.

It was a great drive. Fall has come to northern Baja as many of the leaves are starting to change and it is dramatically different once you cross into BCS. Everything is lush and green and in bloom (even that dreadfully boring section between Constitucion and La Paz!)
