Wow- I hadn't heard that. ^^
How does "official" work?
We have had some rain in San Diego. Is there a long term forecast you could link to?

Thanks- we could use a lot more rain!

For the new folks here, what does that pattern usually mean for Baja?

I know what it means in the Pacific Northwest (warmer and drier)... I think that was because the jet stream splits and sends more energy north and south.

I wouldn't mind catching dorado in Asuncion in January, but I don't want to root for a strong El Nino and warm SSTs if it means that it's going to be stormy all winter, either.

...naah, we sure were hoping to get some very needed rain but it only turned out to be a couple of splashes here and there in SD, nothing like the forecasters had anticipated... lets keep our fingers crossed for a great el niņo for this season... :D we sure need the rain!!!

Because the ocean is warmer off the west coast due to decreased upwelling from lack of NW winds, not a strong El Niņo, it's likely that drought conditions will persist in California.

so-called El Niņo science is relatively new. Middle-ocean sea temps rose sluggishly through summer, failing to reach the condition used to define an El Niņo, but nearer to the coast it was as warm or warmer than it has ever been, with fish and other marine life typical to southern waters up by San Francisco, or even Alaska. Unusually sunny, with mostly mild winds, balanced by pendulum weather mood swings, blasting heat and a record number of big Pacific hurricanes ...

and now the Baja desert is carpeted with green grass

so call it what you want ... something weird is happening ... and it's no use trying to predict it

Up in New England we had our first snowfall on Sunday. There was no accumulation, but we took quick inventory of snow shovels, winter jackets, gloves, etc. And I keep reading BajaNomad to stay warm.

Hey, the rain came down in sheets at my house on Saturday here in San Diego. It's a big county. Filled all my rain barrels in one night!!

Rained pretty good in Fallbrook Friday night and Saturday.
