Nor Cal trout fishing

For those of you who like to catch trout, Eagle Lake is really going off now. Last two weekends we have been getting 10 to 20 fish per day per angler; the majority in the 2#-3# range, a few close to 4#.
Trollers, flys, bait dunkers, shore walkers, everybody is looking like a pro. Trout in the top 5' and close to shore - what a kick.

Great fishing

Eagle lake is a great place for a vacation, plenty to do. Camping, fishing, hiking, water skiing, bicycling or relaxing.

We have a summer getaway cabin there at Spalding.

You can check out the boat launch area and current weather conditions on the livecam: http://184.10.27.243/ our cabin is located just to the left of the camera

How is the lake level at Eagle? Has to be way down, meaning all the fish are in the reduced area at the deeper south end of the lake? Just guessing, but the surface area of Eagle has to be half of normal or less?

Water level

Is way down. Look at the camera link above. Only launch ramp is at the south marina

Don't want to give away secrets but fishing just off of Eagle's Nest is usually a good bet

Just fished the Colorado River at Lees Ferry Page AZ and had limits in 2-3 hrs. Not 4 lbs but good fishing. All natural spawn now no stocking for decades.

Is that all C & R in that section?

I caught some mighty dee-licious trout below Navajo Lake in NM this summer. I fished just where the C & R section ends and the bag limit section starts. Three at 17 inch and one at 14 inch in a half hour.

It was hard for one person to finish eating a 17 inch fish.

Can keep 4 under 14" per day. Have caught 17 inchers there also. Hard to eat a 17" by ones self agreed. Got to try the place you mentioned sometime.
We're floating globugs What do you use over there?

Canadian nightcrawlers, rigged Texas style. I just bounce em along the bottom.

When I'm fishing in unknown waters and the wife wants tablefare, I don't f-a-r-t around.

I'm sure there are die hard fly fishermen that are groaning right now.............the closest I get to fly fishing is a bubble/fly combo.

Seriously, though, if you are into C & R of big trout, this is one of the premier places in the West. Not that scenic, really. A big river flowing through high desert with some scrub pines, cottonwoods, etc.
