In celebrating my 5th wedding anniversary with my Wife Leidys, we planned a trip to her home in Northern Colombia to visit with family, friends, and
visit a few points of interest.
My arrival - on our 5th Wedding Anniversary (with Wife and In-laws awaiting my arrival)
In Soledad - the municipality adjacent to Barranquilla, an elaborate Christmas scene was set up where families went to take photographs - we went for
our photo and to enjoy being outside without the oppressive 100 degree heat slowing us down.
Outside of the family house that were were loaned was this group of kids off for 'Summer Vacation'. Amazingly, the chair didn't break under the load
of these triplets, and their friends. The family sold 'Chusos' or Hot Dogs on a stick to passersby. There was always clientele walking by with money
in their pockets.
For a meager $5.75 per ticket each way from the Terminal de Buses in Barranquilla, Leidys and I took the Transporte to Santa Marta del Rodadero - a
beachcombers paradise filled with great restaurants and eateries up and down the bay. Arriving on the Saturday following New Years Day meant that
people would be out enjoying the sun and the surf.
We braved the high temperatures (hoving around 90 deg. plus humidity) and the blistering sun for just a few hours before grabbing the comida tipica -
Fried Fish, rice, Patacon, and a beverage.
Leidys had a Tropical Smoothie - extra large Smoothies cost the equivalent of $1 and included a variety of tropical flavors available locally.
Finding Jeep-themed folkoric artistry is easy. I bought this hand-made Jeep Willys Coffee truck for about $29.
Leidys tried on this neat Carnaval mask.LOL
Catedral Metropolitana
This is where I met Leidys 6 1/2 yrs ago on the steps of this Cathedral (before the white fencing went up).
A game of TEJO at Las Vegas Entertainment
This regional favorite is a game played where rocks are tossed atop clay triangles loaded with gun powder. Jesus and I dueled, but I later won the
game.
Dinner at Las Vegas Entertainment was reasonable. Dinner for 6 cost $40!
Here, Jesus displays his ribs and potatoes that he devoured.
On the last day (or, night), the neighbors pulled together and threw me a going away party. I've never had a surprise party of any kind, and this was
all from their hearts. I felt honored.

"Let others lead small lives, but not you. Let others argue over small things, but not you. Let others
cry over small hurts, but not you. Let others leave their future in someone else's hands, but not you." - Jim Rohn
