have you ever tried giving a gallon of water to a cycle tourist? Might make you fell good. might make you think of cycles as people instead of road
blocks.
It is easy. buy a gallon of cool clear water, or a liter if you only have $6. When you see a cycle tourist, hit the brakes, and pass safely. Hit
the brakes again, and pull off the road, all the way off, be safe. Give the cyclist a bottle of cool clear water. Wait one minute for them to have a
good drink. Ask some questions about thier trip. Bet thier story is the most interesting part of the day. Once you learn they are people you will
always hit the brakes for them

good reminder. I'll be heading south tomorrow, will pack a few extra bottles of water to pass along (if it's safe to do so).
I can understand the attraction of riding a bike in a new/foreign place, even as cars/trucks zip past. Many years ago I rode my bike around the island
of Hawaii (the "big island"), carrying camping gear. I saw no other cyclists the entire trip, and the locals thought I was crazy.
Tropical climate is different vs. dry Baja, but riding burns lots of calories, so eating and drinking were high priorities! I ran out of water on the
dry (Kona) side, and found only salty water in the park I stopped at to camp. I was lucky to be adopted by a sympathetic local who not only took me
home, but allowed me to stay a couple of nights on their property.
Everyone appreciates (and needs) the "kindness of strangers" from time to time...
\"Probably the airplanes will bring week-enders from Los Angeles before long, and the beautiful poor bedraggled old town will bloom with a
Floridian ugliness.\" (John Steinbeck, 1940, discussing the future of La Paz, BCS, Mexico)

maybe
maybe not
By the time they get half way down the baja on a touring bike, you know they are a long distance cycle tourist. Out of all the travelers, the long
distance cycle tourist makes the least problems. The car campers make the most problems.
If you live behind closed doors from fear of the world, well -------------
If you go outside you may find something good, maybe even have an emotion, good or bad.

There's cattle and other creatures in the road too. I think we should all stop and give them water also. I'm sure they are just as thirsty in the hot
sun.
