Punt Banda get prepared
The Punta Banda 125 mile off road race next Saturday 5/16 will result in several good impacts on the local economy. !st of all all available short
term housing will be filled by the racers and fans that are expected. 2nd all the local bars and restaurants will be filled and 3rd (and I hope not)
the local rescue/ ambulances will be busy because of the gnarly 22 mile race course (6 laps required) as seen by this pre run video taken from a

The race course is all on Ejido Coronel Estaban Cantu property here in Punta Banda.
Ejido Coronel Esteban Cantu offers for the first time ever, a brand new course for competitors to embrace. It is a unique 22-mile course that
features, according to experts, a little bit of Baja all within the 22+ miles. It offers deep canyons, coastal routes, some dangerous cliffs,
run-on-the-sand, a beautiful canyon to take the course into the upper portions of the ridge and panoramic views of both the Pacific Ocean on one side
and Estero Beach and Ensenada on the other side, all visible from atop one of the most majestic courses ever laid out.
Race headquarters is the San Nicolas Hotel, where registration and tech inspection will take place on Friday, May 15, from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m., then a
welcoming party and drawing for starting positions follows.
Saturday is race day at Punta Banda and Ejido Coronel Esteban Cantu. Special “spectator areas” are set aside for people to watch the wonderful
action. Ejido Cantu is charging $50 Pesos per car load—a bargain anywhere. The Ejido will also be serving food, beverages and are sponsored
by BUD LIGHT, the official beer of the PUNTA BANDA events.
Saturday night at 8 p.m. the party returns to the San Nicolas Hotel for refreshments and music and on Sunday, the shift is to Plaza Pueblo Antiguo,
Entertainment Center, downtown Ensenada, for the awards ceremonies that will take place at 11 a.m.
The weekend of the PUNTA BANDA events promises to be a unique event in the annals of off-road racing, especially in Ensenada, where off-road in Baja
began.

i see they seem to tout that it is a beautiful area, but they say nothing about how they will mitigate damage to the natural beauty.
and given that it will be wet/saturated soil from fridays storm, the damage will be worse than usual...
the ejido seems to lack respect for the land,... one wonders about the wisdom of destroying the land for a measly gain of a few bucks from selling
bacon wrapped hotdogs and tecate to drunk knuckle draggers that will leave all their litter behind,...

Former Olympian Nico Saad runs a great hotel, and he is a really nice fellow. Perhaps I'm guilty of a bit of hijacking here, but if you need a hotel
in Ensenada, this should be on the top of your list.

All of the race course is on existing Ejido roads as you would see if you looked at the pre runner video. The only new grading is for the spectator
parking area and bleachers and that is at the existing dump/ landfill.
All the local rain stopped yesterday (Thurs.) afternoon. None overnight and it's bright and sunny today (Fri.) so course should be dried out for races
tomorrow (Sat.)
