Native American dialect? As if any are stupid enough to be in the desert without water, and know how to read their ancient language! Probably cost taxpayers a million dollars for that sign?

O'odham

That last language is O'odham, of the Pima Indians.

Never name-call and only here to help, eh? Never start a political argument, only comment when challenged?

A million dollar sign? In their language on the land we took away from them in the first place, or maybe still on their own Reservation land we gave back to them after we stole it? Maybe their tricked-out Tacoma w/GPS and XM and ONSTAR ran outa gas or blew a tire, or Al Gore lasered them from his Lear Jet, eh?

Putz. :P

C'mon Buddha, lighten up!!!! The million dollar theory was well researched, foot noted, and comes complete with Ann Coulter's essay on "Stupid Natives of Baja: Can't They Find Water?".

LOL... so the Pima need the white man's rescue service? Now THAT is insulting. That they don't read English is also insulting.

I know that the quickest way to draw flak around here, is to agree with DK, but he is right about the Pima text on the sign. Do you really think there is anyone alive today that can read the bottom statement in the Pima language, that can not read either the English or Spanish version?

So what was the point, PC signage?

I didn't know Indians of the Southwest had a written language, did they print newspapers in the 1800's too? I grew up reading or hearing that Indian grandfathers told stories to the young ones and that is how history was preserved... not in books. Nomad is great for learning new stuff... now only if it were true....!

Maybe, it's the 3rd most-spoken indigenous language in Arizona after Apache and Navajo. It is the 3rd most-spoken language in Pinal County and the 4th most-spoken language in Pima County.

And yes, I understand the difference between spoken and written.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/O'odham_language

If a sign is going to placed with English and Spanish, why not include the indigenous language?

It might save a life.

How about, "Done out of respect", because it's on their National land?

The only 'insulting' I see is just a few posts up.

.......oooooh, I forgot, DK never says anything bad about anyone ever, and never ever starts anything negative. He's just helping us open our eyes. My bad.

I hope in my earlier post that I did not give the impression that I am against the signs. I think it is a worthwhile effort to prevent human tragedy, and from an economic standpoint, responding to that station would be FAR less expensive than a search/recovery mission for people in trouble.
