Native American dialect? As if any are stupid enough to be in the desert without water, and know how to read their ancient language! Probably cost
taxpayers a million dollars for that sign?

That last language is O'odham, of the Pima Indians.

A million dollar sign? In their language on the land we took away from them in the first place, or maybe still on their own Reservation land we gave
back to them after we stole it? Maybe their tricked-out Tacoma w/GPS and XM and ONSTAR ran outa gas or blew a tire, or Al Gore lasered them from his
Lear Jet, eh?

I know that the quickest way to draw flak around here, is to agree with DK, but he is right about the Pima text on the sign. Do you really think
there is anyone alive today that can read the bottom statement in the Pima language, that can not read either the English or Spanish version?
So what was the point, PC signage?
If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space!
"Could do better if he tried!" Report card comments from most of my grade school teachers. Sadly, still true!

I didn't know Indians of the Southwest had a written language, did they print newspapers in the 1800's too? I grew up reading or hearing that Indian
grandfathers told stories to the young ones and that is how history was preserved... not in books. Nomad is great for learning new stuff... now only
if it were true....!

Maybe, it's the 3rd most-spoken indigenous language in Arizona after Apache and Navajo. It is the 3rd most-spoken language in Pinal County and the 4th
most-spoken language in Pima County.
And yes, I understand the difference between spoken and written.

I hope in my earlier post that I did not give the impression that I am against the signs. I think it is a worthwhile effort to prevent human tragedy,
and from an economic standpoint, responding to that station would be FAR less expensive than a search/recovery mission for people in trouble.
