los barilles to todos santos

Has anyone tried to hike the first arroyo from los barilles out to todos santos. In google earth it looks like it might be possible perhaps taking a couple of days.

Friends have taken their Quads from Todos up thru the mtns and San Antonio (?) and down to La Ventana . They spent the nite over there and back the next day. Must be a dirt road. Tio

does this road save any time vs taking the mountain road north toward La Paz. It does,nt sound dangerous. The hwy 1 north from Los barilles seems like it would be more treacherous with blind curves and all. probabally wouldn't encounter any other traffic either. I know going south on hwy 1 thru san jose and cabo would take a lot longer to get to todos santos. looking for a neat short cut to cerritos.

First of all, once you get to the highway 1, highway 19 intersection, it's all four lane highway all the way to TS. Not to mention that there are some neat things to see North of where you are coming from. The treacherous curves that you describe are regularly transited by both buses and trucks. Just go slow in the curves.

Total travel time by going North on one to 19, is just under an hour and a half.

Do you mean Ramal El Corro...the dump road south of town? Or the arroyo west of the Pemex station across from the abandoned beach front RV Park?

Lots trails and lots of people out on the trails...hikers, bikers and motorcycles crossing up.and over. Ask around when your are in the area. Here's an interesting report from some time ago:

I've drove that road once about 20 years ago, going east, and the dashes are in the area of the steepest grades in the mountains. I was driving a two wheel drive F-150 with a small camper. On one steep uphill, very narrow gravel section the rear wheels lost traction momentarily. Scary. And any oncoming traffic would have been a BIG problem.

Might be different now, maybe.

The naranja road is totally doable in your Land Rover. It is easier to go east to west as the downhill part past the summit is the hardest. Easier to go down. Pretty views up there. Several easy water crossings.

Not much traffic up there and there is some slow going. Great drive!
