Wegorzewo, Poland outing 6/25

Every afternoon, Les and I walk around and choose a different place to sit, have a drink and eat something. Today was an especially beautiful location and meal so here goes:

THIS IS WHERE WE ARE: pronounced ven gor JEH vo

THE RESTAURANT:

IT HAD TABLES OUTSIDE:

WE WENT UPSTAIRS SO WE COULD BETTER APPRECIATE THE VIEW OF THE RIVER:

THE BEER I AM DRINKING IS CALLED REDD'S. IT IS POLISH BUT BEING SOLD IN THE US UNDER A LICENSE SO IT DOES NOT SAY POLISH THERE.....IT IS BEER WITH FRUIT IN IT AND I (WHO AM NOT A BEER DRINKER) LOVE THE APPLE REDDS.

WE HAD A GREEK SALAD:

AND APPLE STRUDEL WITH ICE CREAM FOR DESSERT:

AND THE BILL CAME TO 33 ZLOTY:

WHICH IS $10 AND WE HAPPILY PAID!

THESE ARE SOME STEPS THAT LEAD DOWN TO THE RIVER. SAYS LES THAT THE BRICK IS GERMAN FROM WARTIME. I LIKE THAT THERE IS A WAY FOR BIKES, STROLLERS AND WHEELCHAIRS TO GO DOWN:

LOOK HOW GREEN - THIS IS A BRIDGE WE TAKE - IT IS ABOUT A 5 MINUTE WALK FROM THE RESTAURANT TO WHERE WE ARE STAYING:

I SAW THIS IN ONE OF THE STORES WE WENT BY - IT IS AN AERIAL VIEW OF THE MAZURY DISTRICT (WHERE WE ARE).

IF YOU ARE A BOATER OR A SAILOR, A BIKER OR A HIKER, THIS IS DEFINITELY THE PLACE FOR YOU:

AND THAT IS THE END OF THIS DAY - HERE IS A PICTURE OF ME AT THE PORT WHICH IS 3 MINUTES AWAY FROM THE RESTAURANT WE WERE AT:

AND LES CAUGHT SITE OF THIS COOL NAMED BOAT:

WE ARE HAVING SO MUCH FUN :)

If I was there I'd try to find a tour boat and cruise the lakes for a day or three.

What a pretty place.

Was that one or two beers for 6 zlotys. It's important info. :D

one beer! as you can see on the bill, mine is the 6 zloty and Les's TYSKIE (the most popular Polish beer) is only 5. And comparatively speaking, that is pretty expensive.

Les told me that the steps leading down to the river are not BRICKS they are GRANITE. He does not know how they were made but says they were made by the Germans and will last 10 lifetimes.

You know, it really is a beautiful area and not overrun by tourists which makes it even more special.

Like I already said, if you are active this is the place to be. Bike paths that cross the country and all the locals also ride bikes around town. Boating and sailing galore. Swimming in the lakes. People have vegetable gardens and when we visit Les's brother for a meal, all the veggies come from their garden.

We are not actively involved in any sports yet there is plenty to do - walking near the lakes is fun, historical places especially Hitler's bunkers are numerous. There is a local museum. Free concerts abound during the summer. Close by (20 min.), there are a number of touristy towns that are great fun to see.

The forests are all around - as we were having lunch the other day, a fox ran by! A wild duck comes to Les's brother's house every day looking for bread crumbs. Storks with huge nests are everywhere!

So different from Baja

Hi Blanca,

Great reports as usual. From the photos, looks like there are no crowds and sparsely populated or everybodys at work?

Compared to Baja, how is the security there? Is it a good place for a vacation home?

Make it a Great Day!!

Gene! come on over and check it out! we are here until the end of August so you have plenty of time.

There are not a lot of people since it is a smallish town (maybe 1o,ooo)but it is also NOT the custom to go out unless you are a tourist. My students have not even been to Germany, which is about 6 hours away.

Like any other town, if left alone I am sure houses get broken into. Such is life nowadays..... Les says stay in a hotel - they are so nice and so inexpensive! A nice home here runs $2oo,ooo, winters are long and snowy, summers are fantastic from June to September.

Thought of you guys yesterday, Gene. Hi to Laura!
