A bit of the old west! Horse Races in Asuncion

We have a very active Club Vaqueros here in Bahia Asuncion that puts on events like Cabalgatas...kind of a horse rally and horse races. Sunday they held a fund raiser day of races where the up and coming colts were training to be race horses with their owners riding them. The horse races are always a fun family event where the local cowboys bring their horses and they give rides to the kids in between races.

My grandson Izaak was so stoked to ride two horses...the second one was a borracho who loved drinking beer out of his master's hand! Here are some images and videos of the day.

For some reason, There is nothing to view or link to! Did it drop off the thread, or is there something wrong with my connection?
I have tried twice to log on and connect.

Thanks for the repair Dave, that's more like it.

If that took place in the US, the kids would probably be wearing helmets, boots, pads, and maybe a seat belt.

VIVA BAJA!

Udo,
Some folks use Facebook and a lot of us do not.

I would personally not like to let FB culture creep onto this forum more than it already has.....

Just the opinion of someone not buying into Twitter, FB, Instagram, and all that stuff.

Why don't you just post your "LIKE" when it suits you?

Cultural events like these are what make baja living so special. I absolutely love the stepping back in time feel. This particular race was to let the colts get the feel of the track and the owners get a look at if the horse can run! They are also raising funds for the cabalgata for the Traditional Fiestas which are coming up on Aug.13-16th.

The riders are the owners and not jockeys which is even more fun. The gal is a twin and the two daughters are good horsewomen. They often take our guests out riding too.

They wear a seatbelt...that is what they are tied onto the horse with.

Izaak loves horses and will be a good rider one day like his mom and nana!
