Bajalearner, 20% discount is a ripoff. Common practice is 40-50% discount. Ex, if daily cost is $30, monthly cost will be around $500. And more discount yet for annual rent.

$48 a day is on the high side, probably the highest rate in the area. Don't know why. Shop around, there should be camps with hookups for less. Some places won't answer the phone, this isn't a Holiday Inn, you'll have to negotiate in person.

I recall one camp adjacent to Estero and Mona Lisa (right between the two), called El Faro. Gate, security, hook-up, beach. Probably in upper 20s or lower 30s per day. Didn't stop at Faro, stayed in Mona Lisa a few days - this latter one is in decay, a few stored rigs but hardly any tourists or permanent residents. What I like about this Southern suburb (called Chapultepec) is that grocery stores are within walking distance, and there are transit buses to downtown, so you can avoid pains of Mexican traffic and parking.

Estero won't bargain much. They run a pretty tight ship and the owner doesn't need your money.

Talked to some people from Sacramento at Estero last year, they were there for 4 months, got 50% the listed rates and were quite happy.

Try and talk to one of the owners (Novelo family) to make the deal

And make sure you make the deal ahead of time, or the gate guards won't even let you in the gate.

If this is true, Estero is an odd place. On most camps in a day time you can go/drive in, see whether you like it or not, talk to whoever is responsible and negotiate the price. Maybe I won't like my space, or the beach, or noisy bar. Or - the owner.

Terry,

I went by there this past Saturday, and the jerks at the gate would not let me in to visit with Cliffh.
They said that no rooms were available, I could not visit the hotel site for evaluation, nor I could not visit with Cliffh at the RV park unless I paid them a $10.00USD entry fee.

So they were jerks. Poor publicity for senor Novelo too.

Just found out, if you pay the $10 it is a credit at the Bar and Restaurant, so have bite to eat and pop and you get your money back.

If the gate guard would have said so, (instead of being a jerk), I would have paid it just to have a couple of beers with Cliff.

Well, not really getting you money back, more like a peddling. They've probably lost more than one prospective customer by charging "admission fee" to the camp. Ok, if camp owner doesn't want our money, his wish shall be granted.

Bajalearner, Last week I went to and checked out every RV Park from Rosarito to La Bufadora. I am planning on staying for 2 1/2 months. Here is what I found in the Ensenada Area.

1. Estero Beach. $78.00/night . Manager said my monthly rate would be $968.00. It's a nice park but it wouldn't be my first choice because of the high price. They have a Lucas Oil Off Road event July 31- Aug 2 and are sold out for that weekend, the manager said they would make room for me.

2. Kings Coronita RV Park. Overlooking the Coral Marina. Dolores King. Front Row $500/month. 2nd Row $350/month. Not nearly the nice amenities as Estero but the price is right.

Those are the only 2 that I would personally consider. I decided to stay in La Mision at Clam Beach Resort. $368/month

Good Luck with your search.

Thanks, I will be back to TJ around August 1st and will go look at these and the other suggested parks. I'm having a nice trip with my 17 year old son in the northern California mountains but I miss Baja. Going to the giant redwoods and the coast next.

Diesel has been about $3. I used the "GasBuddy" App and found a small store selling diesel for $2.76 in Carson City. Great App. Tank is 110 gallons

Haven't had to buy propane but filled up in San Diego near the airport for $1,88/gal + tax
I appreciate all the input.
