Mragowo parade - country western style
Today we went to a very fun event that happens once a year. It is called the Mragowo Country Piknik Festival. It involves tons of food, cowboy/girl
related arts, crafts, leather items and at the end of three days the highlight is the parade.....We only went today, so we saw no musicians but we
did see the parade. I can't tell you how odd it is to see American style music and clothes and even our flag everywhere:
This is what wiki says: Mragowo
Genre
Country music
Dates
last weekend of July
Years active
1983-present
Website
Official website
Piknik Country is an international country music festival, held annually since 1983 in Mrągowo, Poland, on the last weekend of July.[1] There are
performances by both Polish and foreign artists. In 1989, it was the largest country festival in Eastern Europe.[2]
Piknik Country is the oldest country music festival in Eastern
Europe.
We went to it 6 years ago and we have a wonderful poster in our hallway at home...I was hoping to update the poster but the photographer was not there
this time.
THE TOWN:
MRAGOWO SITS AT THE EDGE OF A VERY PRETTY LAKE:
THERE ARE SO MANY PEOPLE THAT THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH HOTELS - PEOPLE RENT SPOTS IN YARDS!
THERE ARE STALLS AND STALLS OF GOODIES:
KOWBOJ IS COWBOY WRITTEN POLISH STYLE:
CHICKEN ON ONE SIDE AND CABBAGE ON THE OTHER:
EVERYTHING SUPER SIZED:
KEBABS:
CHECK OUT THE AUSTRIAN CHEESE, THE BREAD AND SAUSAGES:
THE LOCAL TRADITION IS TO WEAR THE LEATHER HATS
ESPECIALLY LEATHER HATS WITH FUR TAILS ON THEM:
SO, THE HIGHLITE IS THE PARADE AND WE WENT OVER EARLY - HENCE THE EMPTY STEETS:
WHICH WITHIN HALF AN HOUR TURNED INTO THIS:
THE PARADE STARTS WITH KIDS AND ADULTS AND THE MARCHING BAND, THEN THERE COME HORSES, THEN THERE COME A MIX OF MOTORCYCLES, CARS, LOTS OF REVVING AND
TRUST ME -LOTS OF DRINKING!
LOTS OF NOISE - LATER I WILL POST A VIDEO OR TWO:

WOW!
This sounds like a place I would like to visit.
Love the SCHLEP stores (Polish and German slang for goodies).

It is really a hoot - and there is no protection from the cars and bikes - we had no business being right there on the side of the road but it feels
GOOD to do something real bad now and again.....
