It's only free with activation. $150 per year service fee. You can drop down to $100 after the first year, I believe, if you get rid of continuous tracking.

Pick your plan depending on your needs or activities.

I find the SOS, Help, basic tracking, check in/OK and GEOS SAR insurance well worth it

Love my inReach. $38.48 per month, only for the months I use it. Unlimited tracking every 10 minutes. Forty freehand text messages per month. Unlimited "preset" messages.

They have a less expensive plan ($15/mo), and two more expensive plans ($65 and $100/mo). Of course they have an annual contract too.

I've had it for about a year and a half. Delorme keeps improving the software features. They listen to customer comments and suggestions. The only issue I've had is getting it to bluetooth to my tablet. Sometimes the connection is temperamental.

That is cheap. AT&T charges $1 a minute in Europe, AFTER you pay $30 for the "passport" plan.

According to the link provided above, the service fee for this deal is $199.98, or monthly payments of $19.98 with a one year contract.

That phone has horrible reviews.
