Presenter: Graham Mackintosh, Explorer and Author
For the Baja enthusiast, Graham Mackintosh needs no introduction. In 1983 Graham Mackintosh was a lecturer at West Kent College in England, teaching
social sciences and special education to unemployed teenagers. Describing himself as the "least adventurous person in the world”, Graham set out to
walk around the beautiful but dangerous coastline of Baja California. Emerging from the cactus-strewn wilderness two years and 3000 miles later Graham
returned to England to write the now classic, Into a Desert Place and there received the prestigious "Adventurous Traveler of the Year" award. Author
of several Baja books and articles including the classics Into a Desert Place, Journey with a Baja Burro, Nearer My Dog to Thee and Marooned with Very
Little Beer, Graham is an accomplished speaker with vast experience of 30 years exploring the Baja peninsula. Not to be missed!!

Presenter: Jon P. Rebman, Ph.D., Curator of Botany, San Diego Natural History Museum Dr.Rebman is an accomplished scholar and author of the 3rd
edition of Baja California Plant Field Guide. “Many of the plants from the peninsula and its islands are distinctive and stretch the imagination in
respect to plant form and structure—including the bizarre Boojum Tree/Cirio, the giant Elephant Cactus/Cardón and elephant trees”. Jon will be
sharing his extensive knowledge and photography of the flora of our area. Come join us on a botanical adventure to better understand the amazing and

"Sea Turtles of the Eastern Pacific"
Presenter: Stephanie Rousso, M.S., Wildlife Biologist, ProFaunaBaja
Sea turtles have survived millions of years relatively unchanged by evolution. Of the 7 global species, five are present in the Eastern Pacific and
Gulf of California and three nest on beaches in southern Baja Peninsula. Sea turtles complete long-distance migrations and encounter multiple
predators through their lives. However, the most dangerous threat their existence faces is from human action. Despite international conservation
treaties created to protect these species, fisheries, marine debris and coastal development prevent their recovery from decades past of hunting them
almost to extinction. In this presentation, learn about the species right off the coast of Baja, the new, innovative citizen science project to help
monitor populations, what they can tell us about climate change, and what each and every person can do right from home to help preserve these ancient

"Indigenous Rock Art of The Baja Cape Region"
Presenter: Anibal Lopez, Professional Photographer and Naturalist
Indigenous tribes of southern Baja are now extinct, yet they left evidence of their presence through artifacts and rock art. Anibal Lopez has been
documenting through photography and video the expansive collection of over 200 archaeological sites throughout the Cape Region of Baja. He the author
of Reminder of a Forgotten Past. Explore with Anibal over 5000 years of indigenous art scattered on granite rock faces. For six years, Anibal
recruited the help of several rancheros having lived for generations in the Sierra mountain ranges of Laguna, Cacachiles, Trinidad and Novillo. The
paintings are associated with the Guaycura and Pericue tribes, extinguished by the arrival of the Jesuits and Franciscans long ago. Vandalism, gold
mining projects and looting threaten these ancient archaeological sites. Anibal aims to raise awareness with the Mexican communities living in

"Whale Shark Conservation Biology"
Presenters: Dení Ramirez Macías ScD Director, Whale Shark Mexico and Jay Gittens, Director, Eco Hub Mexico
Baja is one of the few places globally where researchers can monitor both aggregations of juvenile and large pregnant female whale sharks. Whale Shark
México is dedicated to research, conservation, education and sustainable management of these charismatic giants, based in and around our Baja
California. Find out more about whale shark life cycles and how you can be part of the monitoring and conservation of these behemoths of the sea.
Over the past ten years Dr. Ramirez and her colleagues have built a whale shark network in the Gulf of California with the vision of promoting
regional conservation of the species. She works closely with the Mexican government on species conservation programs in Mexico. Join us for a
