Good Morning San Bruno

The following describes a really important program that goes on each and every morning during school times in San Bruno which is between Santa Rosalia and Mulege. George Nelson, who is mentioned in the notice is undergoing medical treatment in the US, but Sharon has really stepped up to the plate and is helping keep things going. She will have a booth at the Mulege Chili Cookoff this Sunday so stop by and say hello.

Background
Some years ago in a small Evangelical Church, Pastor Freddie and his wife Marina started a program to provide a good breakfast before school for the kids of San Bruno. Working out of the small kitchen attached to the church, they welcomed any child from the little village for breakfast. It was a real challenge financially, and difficult purely by donations of time and money from the small fishing community.

About then George and Lupe Nelson retired and moved San Bruno. After learning about the program they began volunteering. George discovered how little food the breakfast program had, and seeing the need, and dug into his pocket and purchased $200 worth of food…which lasted about a week. Soon after, George began managing the breakfast program, and dubbed it “Good Morning San Bruno!”. Since October 2013 he and Lupe, with volunteers Marina, Naty and Alicia, have provided breakfast for children from 6-8:30 am every day school is in session. In 2014 Sharon Stewart joined George working in the kitchen daily, purchasing groceries, starting a facebook page, and paypal account.

Currently the program provides breakfast, sanitation, drinking water and needed to serve 35 to 45 children each school day. The program is supported by donations, and a ministry in San Ignacio. Any help; equipment, funding, food or time will be greatly appreciated.
