Retractable roof?

I am indulging myself in the fantasy of building my "fish camp". Any ideas on a roll up door style retractable roof. Are there other types of retractable roof.
Purpose:
1) Security
2) Weather protection.

The roof will cover a "court yard" type area approx. 30'W x 20'L..

My lot is 90'x 90'.

Location: Secret

We live in a house with a retractable roof which runs on rails to open over a center garden patio. The roof and motor are 50 years old and function perfectly. It was popular in Joseph Eichler homes built in California. The slide open roof allows the sun to warm the interior house in the morning and close to cool off in the afternoon and evening.

Mike and Pam had a retractable roof for their telescope at their Dark Skies Baja place. You may be able to contact them on their facebook site at

and see how they did it. I think it was close to the size you want.

Yes I like the roof on tracks and have looked at a few.
My concept is that I could use roll-up type garage doors as a retractable roof. I have seen the RV type as big as 18 x18. So was thinking 3 10 x 20 doors for the roof with 3 matching 10 x 10 for the front wall. The front wall will be sliding doors covered by the roll ups. When open it will be like an outdoor courtyard/deck. When closed it will be secure and weather tight. The center piece of the courtyard will be an endless lap pool that looks out over the water.
