A good old-fashioned hammering!
Huge storm cells coming off the Sierra Madres tonight.
By early evening, some had already crossed over to southern Baja. It waited until about 2:30 to hit us.
I've recorded rainfall rates as high as 4.75 inches per hour and we are over 2.00 inches in the last hour and a half.
Lightning got so bad and close that I began unplugging all the expensive electronic devices, especially my new linear compressor fridge.
Check out the Wundermap and see what's going on. Once you get to the map, zoom out to include all of Baja, turn off "radar" (there is none over here)
and turn on "satellite". Big, big cells with high tops. No hail yet, at least.

And we are only at sea level with a few low mountains around us. Imagine what this did on the western slopes of the Sierra Madres! Heavy flooding
likely. Will probably be repeated over the next two nights, too.
Still raining lightly here. It's causing huge clouds of flying insects that we assume are winged termites.
On the Wundermap, you can also turn on "weather stations" and see a synopsis of temps, wind direction and speeds. Click on the personal weather
station icon on the map and get more detailed info.
Wundermap is just amazing. So valuable for those of us out of radar range.

What's the condition of the big dam and reservoir above Ciudad Obregon? Is the Yaqui River flowing (that's not far from Guaymas, is it)?

It's about two hours away by car.
These storms aren't really that unusual, especially down there. San Carlos tends to be more resistant to them, due to a combination of geographic
factors.
