? to Canadia(e)ns, traveling to Quebec City

On SWMBO's bucket list is Quebec City and in a few weeks we will be spending a few days there. She has booked a room in the middle of the old city and dinner at "the" Canadian fine dining spot. While perusing the online menu what pops up but the following item: Poutine : Homemade french fries, gravy sauce, curd cheese. Not having a clue as to what this is, I Google it and am somewhat appalled to find they are serving french-fries, smothered in gravy and cheese curds next to all the fancy appetizers. Really????
From their photos, it appears to be served on fancy china with real silver table ware and $100 bottles of wine. Is this finger food? Are you allowed to cut it with a knife and fork? Should we tie our napkins around our necks, it looks pretty messy?

And just to make sure a trick is not being played on us 'mericans; we think the word "poutine" is very, very close to a Bakersfield slang for the female primary uhmmm, you know. I would hate to order this and get thrown out of the establishment.

Mood: I'd rather regret the things I've done than regret the things I haven't done.

Just ask them for some ketchup for the fries and the main course and lets see their reaction. :)
