Close call at the Reno Air Races

Sew this close call in one of the F1 races at Reno last week. Miracle no one was injured with the exception of a minor hand injury.

How did that happen? Did the low wing not see the guy on the Tarmac? His wing wasn't going to clear the canopy under any circumstances. Strange.

The starting lineup for the F1 racers is chaotic at best. Since they are all tail draggers they can't see directly forward over the engine cowling, until they gain enough speed to lift the tail up.so they rely on flaggers to control the starting traffic, which they can see out of the side. In this case obviously someone missed the flaggers signal, or the flagger missed the racers signal when he had to shut down. Probably will never get sorted out what actually happened. Fingers probably pointing all over.
