Banded Snowy Plovers

Snowy Plovers are around now, and if you see one closely enough you might see colored leg bands. This tiny beach guy is threatened in much of its range, and reporting banded bird sightings can be very helpful in aiding their recovery. A photo is best, but reporting the sequence of colors and which leg they're on works. The date and GPS coordinates are very good to add, but just a good description of where and how many there are can be of help.

Here's how to report a sighting:

These were taken yesterday at Las Garzas in Loreto. BCS, MX

I've reported many banded birds. Almost always the banders send me a note of appreciation and a history of the bird. Just send them a photo.

I had to log in and say nice pics! As a permitted bird bander, it's a rare treat to get information about your birds when they are on migration or in wintering grounds. It's weird that I don't see the aluminum band with the full band number though.
