5 to 1

Driving conditions and a cheap motel operator!
Is the road going to where? Our understanding from this crew (my wife speaks native tongue) that the unpaved road from San Felipe (Mex-5) to Mex-1 is to be widening at certain points, and paved. There are white x markers (see it in this pic below) every 3/4-mile. Markers that extend from outside of San Felipe, up to 16 miles past Gonzaga Bay (and beyond). We blew a tire at that point. Turned back.
Last year?s trip I pointed out what a DUMP Puetecitos was. Still is! But.... amazingly the town has cleaned up a lot. Bulldozer work has leveled off most of the visual junk trailers, trash, and whatever else humans have dumped there over the past years. To be honest, it does look fine now. Beware?the ?police? (plural) was active for speeders.
The road is fine 28 miles past San Felipe southbound, then the washboard gets rough. 5 hours to Gonzaga.
Was to stay at Alfonsina?s in Gonzaga Bay. This jerk had a real negative response attitude with me for some reason. Quoted me $60.00 a night (was $45.00 a year ago) after debating whether he had a room or not. The damn Motel had zero cars at 5 p.m.! Perhaps he has a tough day, and I was his punching bag?I don?t know. But I?ll never recommend anyone to go there. And he lost 3 days worth of lodging and dinning from us, and a lot more from my future negative remarks about his motel. Now I know I am bout to get slaughtered from some of you on these remarks, but this guy was damn rude.
All military check points as usually were professional. Interior car checks were the norm.
Gasoline prices are bout the same as usa

Thanks for the photo post... I guess the 'end is near'? Not only is a new highway going into Gonzaga, but somebody was rude to you at Alfonsina's!!!

That is a shocker... When Elizabeth and I drove up to Alfonsina's on Jan. 2, Antonio was there with a big smile and bought us drinks (margarita for Liz)...! Maybe it wasn't Antonio? Sorry to hear they were so unhospitable...:(

Last year down there...we were greeted with a hug! I dont have a clue what the negative stuff was. "Burn me once and I shall learn". The extension (paving)of the Mex 5 to Mex1 will change the game in that area, for sure. Why heck....Coco's corner may be a 7-11 in five years :O
