The Honda has the Eco-Throttle feature I like that throttles down when there's no load. I've tested sound at about 50dB. Pure sine wave is critical for electronics and didn't want to test other gen inverters on any devices -- so far no problems with Honda. Without lots of reviews and/or tests, don't know how the Predator will hold up. Got the Hondas based on reputation alone. About twice the price of the Predator.

Guess a lot depends on what you use the gen for and how long you'll have it.

Personally, I wouldn't buy a gen inverter thinking I'd just get another one if there were a problem. When I need my gen, I really need it and don't want problems. Dependability is worth something.

Couldn't agree more ... dependability

buy it...just buy the replacement insurance they offer

take it back in a year and get a new one

good idea!

That's sad, what makes people think that they are entitled to someone else's stuff?

Someone else's stuff? When they bought the gen set and insurance?

He didn't say if it breaks within a year he said take it back and get a new one. I would like to see where in the policy it says "just come back in a year and we'll give you a new one"....just for the heck of it I guess? Maybe insurance fraud is ok with you after all it's a victimless crime, those insurance companies deserve to be screwed over right?

I don't think anyone said anything about fraud...except for you. I think people read a lot more into what he was saying..I took a different way... thus is the NOMAD forum.. carry on folks.

I think the OP had a legit question that has again morphed.

After my honda eu3000is was stolen I replaced it with a champion 3500.
At less than 1/2 the price I am happy with it except it has no eco throttle. It is only a back up to the solar sysytem.

I've had one for a couple months. Seems OK, I'm replacing a Honda 1000 and sound level is similar. The eco throttle on the Honda is a noticeably quicker responding then the Predator. Runs a long time with light load.
The one cheesy part is the side cover opposite the pull start. The cover requires tools to remove and must be removed to check oil level. Also they use about every form of tab/keeper know to man securing it. Warrants a better attachment design.
I will say that I believe it performs up to spec but just, don't count on any reserve overhead. It powers the microwave in the trailer if there is no other load.
For my use, recharging trailer batteries and occasionally powering the micro, a generator is not mission critical and is carried in the bed of a PU. Spending the extra for a Honda or other was not necessary.

FYI If you do a search on WalMart, they offer the same thing under a different name and with a longer warranty. Not stocked in store.

I got a Champion 3000 from Costco a couple of Xmas's ago. Decibels were the same as the honda and half the price. If it ever fais I just return it. Try that at HF.

Actually HF has a VERY liberal return policy. I have tried it a few times. Once on a shade cover over 6 mo. old that failed. The offered a replacement, I didn't want another one, got my $ back albeit a store credit and after some arm twisting. Lots of their stuff is chit but there are some real gems.

buy the warranty...

I tried using a 2000w unit to run a one tone ac...no go

Maybe a really small unit but nothing else and 4 hours of run time isn't long enough...I sleep 8 hours

I did use a old generator frame with a 7 gal tank and hook it to a 900w generator once...it ran for 20 hours at a time
