"No good deed goes unpunished"
At Christmas we asked one of our orphanage director friends if he had a needy student that we could help get through the University.
Absolutely!
He introduced us to a nice young lady (no need for names here) who was half way through first year of University in Ensenada. She was living part
time in town with some extended family and part time back at the orphanage. (Note at 18 they technically get kicked out, but in this case they had a
place for her)
We took her to town, bought her some new clothes, school supplies, etc., even gave her a few extra spending bucks.
Sent $300 to the orphanage each month to cover all expenses.
Last week my son finally got a chance to brave the border, went down and per my request got an update on our girl and her progress.
Sadly, her progress was that she had run away with her boyfriend and has not been seen or heard from in 3 weeks.
Discouraged for us? No. Been working with these kids for nearly 50 years, no surprises.
But disappointed. You bet! She had real promise.
Oh well, onward and upward.
When the border lifts we will go down and start the interview process all over again.

Never know, she might come around! If not all you can do is try. Good on you..

Far better to accidentally help someone who really doesn't need/want it than to pass over someone who really needs it. I try to weigh that every time
I say "No", and re-think it.
Life is good...

Let's hope she comes to her senses and realizes the wonderful opportunity you have offered her. Considering the stress on all of us over the
pandemic, logic does not always prevail, especially when love is involved. Good luck and bless you for your generosity toward others.

Go on you man!
I try to help out the local rancheros west of Mulege by donating old chainsaws I have fixed up. The majority of people appreciate the gift, but a
few sold the saws.
I try to not get negative about it and focus on the people I have helped out.

In an indirect way, you've even helped out the people who sold the saws, especially if they were able to make a profit. It may not have been your
original intention, but - to use your own words - good on you!

You have to think twice these days before starting any new thought on good old Nomad. There are a small pack of unfed junk yard dogs waiting under
the cars on blocks in their yards to come roaring out and nipping at your heels.
But, we also need to try and focus on the good stuff. Helping kids, anywhere, is "good stuff" in my book.
At the risk of sounding like a self promoter I just wanted to lighten up the air a bit around here..... goodness knows it needs it.
