BC Fires
Got word about a fire down in the Santo Tomas Valley area and from what I can see according to the NASA fire map, it's moving slowly to the southeast
and has expanded to what looks to be about nine square miles/six thousand acres. It's burning in a sparsely populated area of coastal mesas east of
Punta San Jose and the winds in the Ensenada area are forecasted to be variable and light for the next week or so, but you never know. There are two
more smaller fires, one to the east of Ejido Uruapan which may have burned some of the new vineyards out there, and another on the east side Hwy. 1
just north of San Vicente. Anyone have any more detailed information about any of these fires?

Had not heard mention of those fires. Then again, it is not unusual for a large fire to go almost unreported in the upland areas of the western
slopes of the Sierra Juarez, especially this year, when it seems like everything is burning. Thanks for posting.
Some old grape vines in that area date back to missionary times --

In remote areas of Alaska, many fires not only go un-reported, they are allowed to burn themselves out with minimal, or no attempts at control.
In 2004, 6.6 million acres burned!

The Santo Tomas fire is moving steadily east, now about three and a half miles west of the town of Santo Tomas. Looks to have spread to about 40
square miles/25,000 acres. It appears that the Ejido Uruapan fire is out.
