Trying to do my part!
Two Sundays ago after mass, my mom and I were approached by a gentleman who was outside. He told me that he had moved back to La Bocana a little over
a year ago and that he was washing cars for a good price. He said he needed money because he was hungry. So, since the day before I had used Les's
truck for the Saturday cleanup and it could use a wash so I suggested he wash it and he smiled.
The car cleaned, he came to drop it off and I drove him home. On the way he mentioned that he was an ex alcoholic and that he had started a group
(similar to AA) in la Bocana and that their one year anniversary was coming up on Valentine's Day.
Turns out their meetings are from Mondays to Saturdays, turns out that teens I know sometimes go to the meetings. Right away I told him: I would
like to throw a small dinner party for the group next Saturday to commemorate your wonderful contribution to La Bocana. We agreed I would drop off
the food at 6:45 since their meeting was from 7 to 8 pm.
I rallied the masses! My friend feathers (Bajanomad) who is a spectacular cook - made a rice dish that you could smell all over town. My friend
and mom of one of the teens who is an ex drug addict and goes to the meetings, made sushi. My friend Anna Fischer made her famous two toned jello.
I made a cake, bought soda, and got some canned mangoes as well as supplied all the plates, forks, spoons etc.
Here are the photos!
the table all set up:

the little chapel that they have off to the side:

and a shot of Andres and another participant. He was the one who first approached me. They were so so happy and I told them we will do this every
year. If we really want to end drug addiction - alcohol addiction - I feel we have to support those who are living the struggle. In this AA group
- I was told that they accept anyone with any issue. Psychological Physical whatever. Pretty neat if you ask me. Group averages 12 people.

Andres and I have a deal that he will wash the truck every other Sunday after mass. And he promised to pray for me so I actually come out ahead LOL
Happy Valentine's day, everyone. I know each and every one of you is making a difference in the world in your own ways, so God bless.

...ummm ,,a friendly note about these groups,, the term 'anonymous' in their titles suggests the idea of allowing -anonymity- to it's members.
I'm really not trying to be semantic here,, but suggest leaving people pictures out when it comes to these groups.

Bless you Blanca- I love how you are always looking at supporting the best in people, no matter what their circumstances in life.
Inspiring!
(PS- I thought of you and your love of churches yesterday, during memorial services for a friend in a beautiful church in San Diego.)

thanks all!
Micah - this group, oddly enough, is not anonymous at all....they wanted me to party with them - I was the one that insisted I drop off the food etc.
before the meeting and pickup over 30 min. after it had ended. Perhaps because anyone can come and not only ex drinkers but anyone who has any
problem at all???? I don't know really. I asked about taking this photo and sharing with my friends and they said OK. I was the one that also
insisted I would NOT post on fb - just my own idea that private is private!
Happy Valentine's Day! It is our anniversary today and Les managed to put together a surprise party that was a blast. Such a good life and I feel
so blessed.

Yup you have a good heart Blanca. But then we knew that.

thanks again and Dennis , you ALWAYS make me laugh. I sure wish you lived closer so we could meet you in person one of these days! Actually, that
goes for all of you....try to make it a point to visit one day. Life is really about people when it all comes down to it.
I so love where we live and I so feel very lucky to be where I am today.
Hope everyone had a happy amigos day yesterday - as one of our teen college sponsors says at the end of his emails - MAKE IT A BETTER DAY.
I like that.
