My new girl

Lola

A few months ago I asked about animal shelters in Ensenada after suddenly losing my sweet Max just before Christmas. In May I found Lola (previously named Mindy) at the shelter right next door to the pound. I had originally gone to the pound twice hoping to rescue one doomed for the needle, but both times I drove down they were closed. The last time just as they were loading those put down into the vet's trunk. :( One was the one I had hoped to adopt.
It was a very traumatic experience for me, as you can imagine, and as I leaned against the taxi door, my friend the driver noticed the shelter two doors down.
I wish I could recall the name. They were fabulous, so many dogs though, some had 15-20 per kennel. But they were loved and off the street.
I found out after my friend called the owner, who as a bonus spoke English, (my Spanish is still bad and broken)that I had to make an application and pick out the pup I wanted.
It of course was love at first sight, and after me telling her some about myself she allowed me to take Mindy home.

I recently moved to a little larger space so I hope to go back and get another one soon.
If anyone is ever in a position to adopt or wants to donate (or even help me with remembering the name) it is on Mexico Ave at the south end of the city.

Good for you 90% of the dogs we have had were Baja strays --they make the best pets almost as if they know they were rescued :bounce::bounce:

Just as soon as I clean the tears off of my key board, I will tell you that beautiful Lola is one lucky girl.

And I love a shelter who makes sure the human deserves to have a dog. Enjoy and love your fur baby as I am sure you are!

Thank you so much. She is the light of my life. It is sometimes difficult here , just because of language barriers etc . I am sure you all understand.(I am learning slowly), she has been an outstanding companion. (except at 5:30 am when she pounces on my head and grabs my hand with her paw to wake me up for breakfast.).

She really is. She had quite a few skin problems underneath that beautiful coat and was pretty skinny. I had her shaved and had medicated baths and it's much better now.

After the shave: (she can sleep anywhere :))

Thank you,do you have a brand suggestion? Some are a little different here. I have to admit she gets some pretty good stuff sometimes lol, we shared an ice cream yesterday, no chocolate of course. She had no idea what it was, but had fun trying it.

Hola

I wish I did, but I don't and facing the same issue this winter when I return home to Baja Sur.. I would ask at a local feed store.. Its rather hard to find dog food with out corn (fillers) in the "Land of the FEE" and could be harder in mexico.. If you find a brand name with no corn can you please post back and pics of your dog are always welcomed... Capt "K" and the famous Lil Tasha
