Wow! That was some great reading..blast from the past. JR sounded like he enjoyed a little ...heckling? I have seen a few long timers disappear like DavidE, the Loreto Texan Skeet!, Mike Odell. Some just choose not to get into the dogfight I think. I would have loved to meet Jimmy Smith the Grinnin Gargoyle. Over a cold beer we used to talk about compiling some stories about the offbeat characters here in Todos Santos! Thanks for sharing. Tio Tomas

I'm afraid to inquire about Skeet, but David Eidell shoots me an email from time to time.
Baja Bernie? Miss him a lot.

Some beings have greater value after they're DEAD.

Bacon, Ribs, Steak, etc. are proof of that.

People ?

It does seem to be true that "remembrance" raises their stature.

Many would agree that I may turn out to be an exception to that rule.

He wasn't around long and lost interest in this forum in a short time.

He wasn't a happy camper.

The Dead Letter Box

We all have our memories.

Sometimes, looking back on adversaries dead is just compensation for dealing with them alive.

I fondly look back on making jokes (sometimes not well-received) when a co-worker met an untimely end.

There was this one (40-year old) Union Steward at GTE who had a "Head-On" coming home from the Colorado River ..................

THAT was Schadenfreude at its best.

Good for many inappropriate mirthful moments.

My last Ex-Wife also lost a similar Windshield encounter a few years back. Scrambled Skull. Son had to pull the plug.

Better later than never, I guess.

Dead Men DO Tell Tales

Or, at least, their tales are retold.

Selectively.

I've found that the often-offered advice ..................... "If you can't say something GOOD [regarding the Dead], you should say nothing" simply tends to convey an inaccurate and unjustified remembrance.

Balance is Better.

JR didn't like you. He might have humored you in person.

Why would you post something like this? Even if it is true, why would you post something like this in a public forum. I honestly don't get it.

We were friends. Some of the stuff on Nomad did irritate me, but JR thought it was funny how he got so much drama out of some of you here... (it is still working for you). He told me so one of the several times I was invited to his and Carols' home. Let JR rest.

JZ will be instrumental in taking this site to its knees. Maybe JZ is Doug's way of saying "I've had enough."

JR

I will never forget JR
He was a character for sure but a straight forward and honest guy who LOVED Baja and it's people.
And he really did actually SKI in Baja.
We had lots of adventures.
He had just bought a place in San Bartolo that he had great plans for just before he passed.
I miss him dearly and often wonder how Carol is doing.
RIP dear friend

Did he snow ski in Baja? Just curious because I put together a ski mountaineering trip in the Sierra San Pedro Martir in the 1970s.
