Heads up Tecate

Tecate's finest are at it again, (are they ever not these days? ),pulling gringos over using a bs excuse then finding "other" violations
They seem to be real good at covering all main routes in and out of town
Snitch is still on first corner crossing south , cell phone in hand
An azulito or two is no longer a sufficient fix , they're upping their fines .
Just inflation I guess

hola LaTijereta,

a few years ago, i crossed around 6 a.m. and not a cop in sight.

another time, i was in line by myself way before opening time and nobody was there. a mexican kid came over and opened the gate and i proceeded into
mexico and once again, no cop in sight.

other times, i crossed and quite a few cops and i had sindicatura decals on the passenger side rear window and one on the back of my utility trailer
and all the cops did was look. didn't bother me at all and i did fully stop at every corner before proceeding.

i would think the cops would know by now who is aware of their tactics by how we drive going south..and north ???

Tecate

Crossed Saturday about 1130 am. A police car was parked at the intersection where one makes the final left turn along the border wall. As soon as I
passed him he raced behind me and lit me up. I stopped . He came to my truck and stated the he just got a call from an officer watching a camera and
that I had ran a stop sign several blocks back. I denied the claim and ask for a photo. He then noticed my dog and said that I was in violation of
Tecate law requiring all dogs to be secured in the back seat.He said to follow him to the station. I said no way , I was towing a trailer and would
not leave my dog in vehicle. It was about 95 degrees. He said just this once He would take the 800 peso fine and pay it for me. If not for trailer
and doggie I would have followed him to station. I may have had to pay a fine but it’s not likely he would have received any of it.

You didn´t try and talk him down? I bet you could have gotten away with 250.

It sounds like Bombero was on his way north (left turn along the border wall). Good to know about the dog violation, I have a harness and tether for
her, but she rode shotgun the last time I crossed north!

A dash cam would've been able to argue the stop sign violation...
The dog not in the back seat and not secured, well, that's another issue. Does anyone know if the dog issue is actually a written law?
Maybe one could argue the dog thing with "I keep it in the front seat to protect me from corrupt officials extorting pesos from me"

Here's a tip if you don't own a dash cam.
What I do in places like Tecate and Ciudad Insurgentes is start my video on my phone and place it on my dash and talk my way through, like saying
"Ahora me detengo por completo" at every stop sign.

Easy to play back to the nice Policeman...

Me too. Velcro my Nikon Cool Pix to my dash before CC and count 19 or so stops.
