I last saw Herman at the 2005 New Years Dance at Casa Diaz. Baja Angel and I were sitting with Paulina and Mia. I never got his signature, however.

I met him at Guillermo's in BOLA in 2012 and had a beer with him. He was salty. Would fit right in with a lot of you nomads LOL.

Watched the video of the San Gregorio mule lady and nomad, Paulina. Nice to virtually meet you! Never met Herman Hill, either, though I enjoyed his
book. Herman claimed to have found the precious reliquaries of the Jesuits buried in the desert under the bones of a burro...
I always wondered what happened to his place and stuff after he passed; in particular if among his possessions was found an old silver candle stick,
black with tarnish--

When word came to town that Herman had died in the accident, his housekeeper and a couple of close friends were able to get his personal/valuable
belongings out of his house and safe before word spread. I met his sister in Vegas and gave her his things and she gave me his ashes, which I buried
out at Las Flores, south of town. I have his original typed and handwritten notes for his book. In the interview I talked about how he and I would
type and make corrections using lantern light. It's heartwarming to open that manuscript and see our writing on the yellowed pages.
The first book, pictured above, is the one to find. The second edition was printed after his death and changes were made. He wouldn't have been happy
about the way that went down.
Herman was a character indeed.

It was disappointing that Roger chose to edit the book without you mentioned. The second edition has a few more of Herman's stories and about his
passing. Roger gave me a copy when I was doing my guide research in 2017. He died a couple years later.

My beef with the second edition has nothing to do w me being mentioned or not. That never occurred to me. It is on the timing of the second printing,
changes made, and the motivation behind the second edition. Both men are gone now, I guess the two of them can Duke it out, again.

Oh, I know that... it bothered ME that you were not included in the book.
Probably that Herman was gone and maybe the stock of first edition books had dwindled. A renewed interest in Herman's stories meant more demand for
them.
How about a book about Paulina's colorful life and how Baja changed it and directs it?? Get writing, 'pretty teacher'!

Paulina!! How wonderful to see you in the video and I sure wish we had met in person. The day we go back to La Bocana, know you are invited to come
down.
We did meet Hermann and I did get a signed book which is still in Baja. He really was a character.
