Fun the stuff that is online!

In 1966, we came upon that van or one like it. On the main peninsular road, south of El Arco, at Rancho Los Angeles.

The sun had recently set, and my dad (who was in a rush to get fishing) decided to follow it, so there would be no chance of taking the wrong fork.

Back in the old road days, signs were not at every road that led off from this one to La Paz. Most times they were just parallel detours to avoid a
bad spot and soon came back to the original road.

Well, it soon got dark, very dark (no moon). When we arrived at San Ignacio, we missed seeing how incredible the oasis there was, we missed seeing the
river, and missed seeing the mission (or didn't stop to see it if we did go through the plaza). The town was mostly dark except for some kerosene
lantern's light (no 24 hour electricity).

The van lost us (probably on purpose to get away from out Jeep's headlights!), so we continued solo towards Santa Rosalia, in the dark.
Young me fell asleep until awakening at Santa Rosalia (24-hour lights). My parents told me of the harrowing switchback grades I missed! They spoke
about them often, afterwards, too.

Asking a cop on the Santa Rosalia street for a hotel. He suggested one that did mot pass my mom's approval. We drove north a bit and slept on the
beach for a couple of hours until the blazing sun arose from the calm Sea of Cortez... This story continues!
