Ever Wonder?

Why is it that you can be camped off by youself on any one of the nice beaches in Baja, and, when someone else drives in, they pull in right next to your campsite and start setting up camp without even asking if they are too close. I have had this happen numerous times, even though there was plenty of beach to allow some space between camps. Are people that insecure, or do they
just assume you like to have them camp right on top of your camp? I like a little space around me and would never even consider pulling in real close to a strangers camp unless it was the only option.

I hate this subject....I thought it was always ME that they pull up next to.....I feel like a magnet sometimes....I have had people pull so close that I can't open door all the way.....this happens EVERYWHERE....something about more remote areas makes it even worse when they do it.....and yes...loud music is OK for them....smoking fires.....fireworks....drunks....well you know what I mean.....

Grouping

I used to always be the guy that would camp as far away from any other campers that I could. Invariably, when I would then meet one of those campers on the beach, they would ask me if I was "Anti-social" (YES).

Wow... and here I thought I was the only one this happened to. Guess there are a lot of insecure people out there. When this happens to me, I make it a point of carefully removing my wetsuit so that my unwanted neighbors get the full moon they deserve.

I'd think it would be wierd to pull up to a beach and camp out next to someone when there is so much area versus going down furthur and walking to say howdy with a cerveza in hand....space the place.

Ever Wonder... AND

The same people will drive past a campsite that is dirty, overgrown, needs ruts filled etc ,etc, and then when you clean it up, haul off the empty cans and broken bottles and make a nice camp site out of it and go to town for supplies or return the next week or what ever and who is camped in the site??? So you go on down a ways clean up another site and the next time their friends are in it, BOY now they can camp together!!!
You know who you are!! So I am only a 70 year old disabled vet so I will clean your 30,s something self another camp site.
Yes MRBill I am anti-social too!

We usually just pull up and introduce ourselves and ask if there are any spots as good as the one you have. We can take our hints from there, and we leave camp sites in better shape then when we found them.

Great point. Always gets me as people can carry full bottles and cans in but can't carry out empties? Trash bags work wonders.

I have been known to say "There are 3000 miles of beach in Baja, how come you chose to camp right on top of me?"
One time when a camper pulled in within 10 feet of mine, I asked him if he would mind moving over a little, and he told me that he was afraid someone else would pull in between us if he left more room. There was plenty of space on the beach, but I think he was used to camping in RV parks.

Next time, greet them enthusiastically...sans pants. If that doesn't produce results then I would hurriedly break camp.

Camping etiquette

We camp a lot with friends so we do camp close to each other...but not too close. Just close enough for that comfy get-together at the campfire each night.

If some stranger finds our spot, we find out right quick if we are compatible, which 'generally' turns out to be the case. We have met lots of people this way and have thankfully formed a few lasting friendships. We go to adventuresome places and these places attract adventuresome people..hence, we have something in common already when we meet.

I feel for your plight, bajarich, but thank goodness we have not met any rude campers yet. Maybe the beach attracts more people like that..being it's usually so easy to get there? We tend to like the interior wilderness more for camping.

Campers too close?

Like another Nomad posted a while back (Neil Johns, I think), you could always chose a spot where nobody will bother you.
