Woody, this should make it more interesting.
It isn't the prison at Santa Rosalia.

I've seen a turnoff north of the airport in los cabos to a prison. Those mountains in the distance look familiar. So I'm thinking that must be the
place.

Jefe, you've got it.
A dozen years ago we ran out of daylight and had a couple of close calls on the highway, so we pulled off looking for a quiet place to park the van
and sleep. Trying to keep from waking up all the dogs at the various goat ranches in the area we finally pulled into this big open field, and the
headlights illuminated the walls and guard towers. Knowing that we had passed through a broken-down fence to get there, I was freaking out that the
Feds might start shooting.
Then I realized that there were no lights, and whoops, a 200 foot section of the wall was missing too. Went back in the morning and took the picture.
Is it in operation these days?

Just before it was completed the word on the street was that La Paz felt that it was to close to the airport and would send the wrong message to the
throngs of smiling gringos, so they took it apart piece by piece and moved it further east and north of the highway where it is not as easily noticed.
You can see the new one form the air when arriving from the east. I dont know the name of it but they sell stuff on the streets that the prisoners
make there. Some of the stuff is not bad quality and have bought some myself.

Which side of the highway was it on?
There is a ceresa(that might be cereso) near the airport which in an article, which I read on here, said was for illegal aliens. The other one nearer
the airport was never finished for the reasons listed above by osoflojo.

Judy, it was on the south side of the highway only a couple hundred meters east of the airport interchange. You could easily see it as you entered the
airport from San Jose but leaving the airport it was difficult to see unless you were going to the east cape.
